Happy National German American Day! This day commemorates the first permanent German settlement in Germantown Pennsylvania in 1683. Since then, Germans have contributed much to America, inventing technology and founding companies that continue to impact our lives. We are always looking to celebrate the diverse cultures that make up Suffolk County.

I was happy to be joined by Lt. James Guenfelder, President of the Superior Officers Association and Executive Secretary of the Steuben Association, to mark this occasion.

Congratulations to Sergeant Robert Griffith on receiving the 2026 Lifesaving Award from the New York State Department of Criminal Justice Services! The presentation took place at the start of their annual Public Safety Symposium in Albany.

This well-deserved recognition honors an extraordinary act of courage, quick thinking, and dedication to protecting and serving others.

We are incredibly proud to see Sergeant Griffith recognized by DCJS. His actions exemplify the very best of law enforcement and the commitment our members demonstrate every day. A special thank you to Commissioner Catalina, Deputy Commissioner Galati, Chief Hardy, and Chief Maronski for joining SOA board members at the ceremony.
