On August 28, a notable Theosophical-related event began in 1993: the second Parliament of the World’s Religions opened in Chicago and ran through September 5. The Theosophical movement was represented by Radha Burnier, then international president of the Theosophical Society (Adyar), and Grace Knoche, head of the Theosophical Society–Pasadena; Theosophical panel discussions were included.
The event connected with a central Theosophical ideal: respect for the shared spiritual truths found across religions and cultures. The Theosophical Society itself was organized in New York in 1875 by Helena P. Blavatsky and Henry Steel Olcott, with its international headquarters later established at Adyar, India.
