So if the SAL has a motivated small crew, wonders can be accomplished! Back on October 14, 2012 SAL 449 had an odd combination that turned to be quite successful. Although not repeated.
SAL 449 Steak Dinner with A Night in Olde Russia. Hosted by Mike and Vi Pook. All funds earned went to the Children Welfare Fund, CWF. There was 88 people paying just 10 bucks for dinner cooked by SAL member Brandon Wing with help from Tim Sherman. Our hostress was Jenifer Pook.
The theme of the evening was "A Night in Olde Russia." We had traditional russian folk music being played in the background with dinner. Raffles were all folk art, toys, dolls and alcohol of Russia's regions. The best part of the evening was the folk dance troupe, The Kavkaz Russian Dancers of Milwaukee. Their colorful costumes, exciting dance music and athletic dances truly swep patrons out of their seats. (As seen in one of the pictures) This was the only appearance the Russia Dancers ever made at Post 449. After the dinner, and entertainment, Patrons could enjoy live classic rock music in the bar room for Saturday Nite Live Music which occurred every Saturday night at Post 449.
Flashback to a previous Squadron meeting, Squadron Commander Mike Pook was told it would be impossible to pull this theme night off with a steak dinner on a extremely limited budget. Well, with a motivated small crew, it was accomplished! Plus Mike gained a son-in-law that night!
