We heartily encourage you to become a part of this historic community. Our heritage travels back over 325 years to 1660 and embraces the very roots of our nation's basic freedoms and ideals. We are still blessed with the natural beauty of our valley, "The Quaboag", and invite you to follow its river waters through the channels, currents, lakes and bogs that make this valley home to a variety of wildlife and give us a vast view of nature at its best. Brookfield has gone from a few fortified houses on the very early Massachusetts frontier to grow to a thriving business center during the 1800's, but always with the enduring presence of farming. Today, few farms are left, and the many agricultural valleys and fields that gave us open bucolic scenes are over grown and gone from view. The Historical Commission's hope and aim is to foster and encourage the preservation of our heritage - be it the preservation of historical artifacts that our forefathers worked and made a living with, the historic homes and buildings that have stood for generations, or the open fields that gave us "new" England. Our small town, snuggled into the rolling uplands of Massachusetts, is blessed with historic liberty, natural beauty and wonderful people. You're now a part of the history of Brookfield.
