Chicago Tribune, July 13, 1947. I-55 (The Stevenson) will now connect with Route 66, which will relieve traffic from Ogden Ave. Interestingly, I-55 was built over the path of an old Canal. That is why it is so straight.

“To commemorate the 125th anniversary of the Village of Brookfield, the Brookfield Public Library, the Brookfield Historical Society and a group of dedicated volunteers teamed up to digitize and make accessible photographs of Brookfield, Illinois. The project began with photographs from the Brookfield Historical Society and will also include photographs from residents and other Brookfield institutions as well as photographs of historical artifacts.”

A friend loaned his interesting 1958 phone book that covers Brookfield.

As a young woman, my grandmother used to visit a family in Brookfield, but she refereed to the village as "Frog Town".
Turns out, after consulting the directory, the family lived on Forest across from the creek.
