Today would have been Dr. Saadati’s 49th birthday. While there will always be inherent sadness on this day, the foundation recently had its very first board meeting where we decided that today should be a day to honor the life of Dr. Saadati by recognizing one of his greatest qualities: his unending effort to be there for the people in his life. From his patients, to his colleagues, and the community around him both personal and beyond, Dr. Saadati hardly ever stayed a stranger to someone for long. In the wake of his passing, stories poured in from many people detailing how far and above he went to be there for them and anyone in his orbit.
This will be the first year of what the foundation hopes will be a wonderful tradition honoring Dr. Saadati. The Dr. Hamid Saadati Be a Friend Day is a reminder to check on the people in your life and be a friend to those around you. Strong bonds and close healthy friendships are a major contributor to better mental and physical health; extending not only enjoyment of life, but life itself.
Take a moment today, and think about the people that you are thankful for in your life. When is the last time you talked? Is it time to check-in, offer a warm note of encouragement, surprise them with a treat from their favorite coffee shop or bakery, or make plans to catch up? When is the last time you embraced the people you’re thankful to have in your life and let them know that?
We recognize and give thanks to the contingency of friends of Dr. Saadati who have offered their time and effort to join our small but mighty board: Ben Yeboah, Debbie Proctor, and Amir Mir Abdolazimi.
Comment with a story or memory of how Dr. Saadati was a friend to you, or how you were a friend to someone today 🤍
