A recent trip to Gashora by members of the AFJHAR team brought the opportunity to connect with the children sponsored by so many of our friends in the U.S. We were able to prepare a special meal for the sponsored children (and a couple hundred of their friends!), share a few treats, and spend time checking in on how they’re doing.

Because of our incredible sponsors, moments like this are possible—moments of nourishment, joy, and community that go far beyond a single meal.

To those who already sponsor a child: thank you. You are changing daily life in ways that matter by providing access to food, education, stability, and hope for the future.

And to those who have been thinking about getting involved: there is still so much need. Sponsoring a child means showing up in a life-changing way—helping ensure they are fed, in school, and surrounded by opportunity.

🌍✨ Happy International Women’s Day! ✨🌍

Today we celebrate the strength, creativity, and resilience of the incredible women supported by Journey House Actions Rwanda. In Gashora, women are transforming their futures through the basket weaving and sewing programs; learning valuable skills, earning living wages, and supporting their families with dignity.

Beyond craftsmanship, these programs also teach financial literacy, saving, and investing—empowering women with the tools to build independence and long-term stability in a society where economic opportunities for women have traditionally been limited.

This year, we’re proud to take another step forward by building a new dedicated workspace for the seamstresses and basket weavers. This space will give women more room to create, collaborate, and grow—opening the door for even more participants to learn, earn, and lead within their communities.

When women gain skills, confidence, and financial independence, entire communities rise with them. 💛

It's giving Tuesday! Join us in our Fifth Annual Food Basket Appeal, where we are reminded of a simple truth: a nourished child is a learning child. Without proper nutrition, students can’t concentrate in class, parents struggle to provide for their families, and the cycle of poverty continues. In Gashora, food insecurity still touches too many lives—but together, we can change that story.

In this season of Thanksgiving, the AFJHAR family is so grateful for the impact we've been able to make in Gashora with all your help.

🐮 Fun fact 🐮 — just two years ago, we were thrilled to report the JHA dairy farm had produced 7,000 liters of milk. This year, we surpassed 20,000 liters -- congratulations to the team on almost tripling the output in such a short period of time!
