Yesterday the Brook Park Firefighters had the honor of participating in the Cuyahoga County Library Touch-a-truck event in Brook Park. There was such a great turn out of excited, curious youngsters and their families. We had a blast showing them our trucks and our tools of the trade, as well as fielding their many awesome questions! đźš’ đźš‘

At tonight’s union meeting, L1141 was able to officially send off now retired member, John Caine! John served the city of Brook Park as a L1141 member for 25 years. As is tradition, he was sent off with his “roast” after tonight’s meeting! Thank you, John! It was an honor and a pleasure to serve along side you. You will be missed, but please make sure you still stop on up from time to time!

There a certain things that we train for that we hope we never need to use, but are able to look back and draw knowledge from these trainings. This is one of those times. Over the past three days all three shifts from Brook Park FD, Middleburg Hts. FD, and Berea FD trained on school bus extrication. Such topics included the stabilization in case of a roll over or partial roll over, access in to the bus to treat and remove victims, removal of windows and seats if extra room was needed, and more. Thank you to the Berea City School District for the donation of the retired buses, our instructors Luke Ricketts and Mike Philbin for their time, knowledge, and dedication. And also the chief of each respective department for helping to set this up.

It was a very busy week for L1141 and members…

We will start off with this past Wednesday. First, we swore in our newest member, Sean Houser! Welcome to L1141 Sean!

After Sean’s swearing in and our union meeting, we celebrated the careers of two longtime members as they have both recently retired. Capt. Matt Lynch and FF/Paramedic Scott Boulton. Both of these men had been cornerstones of this dept. and union for a long time. To say they will be missed is an understatement. But, we congratulate them both on great and storied careers, and well deserved retirement! Congratulations, brothers! Enjoy retirement!

Finally, Thursday and Friday two of our members took part in Cleveland Firefighter’s Local 93 HockeyFest, playing for the West Side FD team. This team is made up of members of other local West Side departments. FF/Paramedics Pat Midea and Kevin Kulesa took to the ice to represent L1141. West Side FD went 2-0 on Thursday winning both games and putting them in the championship game on Friday at Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse. West Side FD and Columbus/Dayton FD battled it out for three periods and that wasn’t enough. This game went to a shootout w/ West Side FD coming out on top and winning the tournament championship! Congratulations to all the members of all the locals that represented.

This is a great tournament put on each year by Cleveland Firefighters Local 93 with all proceeds being donated to the families of fallen FF’s in the state of Ohio. A great and noble cause. Thank you again, Local 93!
