We'll be working with the Garrett Park Neighborhood Association and Boy Scout Troop 353 this Saturday 4/24 from 10am-1pm cleaning up the area between Palmer and Pondfield Rds.
Raking leaves, picking up litter, moving wood chips, piling branches and logs, and of course cutting vines.
Drop by and say hello if you get a chance.

Hi Everyone,

We'll be cutting vines again this Sunday, 4/25/21 from 1-3pm in Crestwood on the Bronx River.

This is Exit 7 northbound (Thompson St.) or Exit 8 southbound (Vermont Terrace) on the Bronx River Parkway. Also accessed by MetroNorth RR Harlem Line (Crestwood Station).

This time out we'll meet in the commuter parking lot by the Crestwood RR station and walk over the Thompson St. Bridge onto Vermont Terrace on the west side of the Parkway.
Lots of Bittersweet and Porcelain Berry there.
As usual, we'll have gloves and tools to lend plus hand sanitizer.
All volunteers must wear masks. Easy to stay socially distanced as we're outdoors.

Hope you can join us.

We're gonna hit the Fisher Lane site along the Bronx River for vine cutting again this weekend. We will be there Sunday March 7th from 1-3pm.

We've been there 4 times already this winter with great success, saving dozens of trees in the process.

Once again, this is Exit 24 on the Bronx River Parkway (Fisher Lane) in North White Plains.

The MetroNorth RR North White Plains station is nearby.
We'll meet in the smaller North Castle commuter parking lot and fan out from there. Look for the orange "Volunteers at Work" sign and my white Toyota pickup.

As there may still be snow on the ground, please dress properly. Forecast for Sunday calls for temps in the 40s.

Once again, we have tools and gloves to lend. Hand warmers too.
Volunteers must wear a mask and practice social distancing.
Come on out to get some fresh air and exercise.

Hope to see you there.

The Conservancy's Vine Cutters will be back out on the Reservation this weekend cutting back invasive vines that threaten native species. Join us this Sunday, 1/24/2021 from 1-3pm. We'll assemble once again in the smaller North Castle commuter parking lot (look for the orange "Volunteers at Work" sign).
This is Exit 24 (Fisher Lane) on the Bronx River Parkway in North White Plains. The North WP Metro-North railroad station is within walking distance on the Harlem line. We had an excellent turnout last time out. Scouts from BSA Troop 19 Tuckahoe and Troop 5 Bronxville came out in force to supplement our regulars and a few newcomers. You'll want to wear comfortable shoes because the work area is a few hundred yards north on the pathway from where we'll meet. Beautiful sycamore trees are among those that we can save. The weather is forecast to be chilly, so keep your eye on the forecast and dress appropriately. Once again we'll have tools to lend and gloves to keep plus expert training for newbies.
And please wear a mask. Social distancing is easy as we'll be outdoors in a 807 acre park.

The Bronx River Parkway Reservation Conservancy's vinecutter.com squad will be at it again this Sunday, 11/22/2020 from 1-3pm.
This time out we'll be at Exit 10 (Harney/Strathmore Rds.) on the Bronx River Parkway in the Eastchester/Scarsdale section of the Reservation.
You can park on Garth Rd. by the Eastchester Little League field where we'll meet and venture south on the Reservation and/or cross the Parkway into the Garth Woods.
Also accessed by taking MetroNorth RR (Scarsdale station) although it's about a fifteen minute walk north to where we'll meet (corner of Harney and Garth Rds.)
Look for my white Toyota pick-up.

RSVPs welcome so we know how many volunteers to expect.

As usual, we'll have gloves and tools to lend.
Volunteers are required to wear a mask and practice social distancing.

Hope to see you there.

This coming Sunday, 3/31/19 from 1-3pm, our vinecutting volunteers will be on the Bronx River Reservation saving trees at Read Ave. in Crestwood. This is EXIT 6 NORTHBOUND on the BRP.

The last two times out we worked across the Parkway on the Southbound side, (also an Exit 6, Read Ave.). We hit the northbound side at least twice last year and we'll visit there again to clip any new growth.

We'll have tools and gloves to lend as usual and training for any newcomers.

Park on the side streets as we've done in the past; Look for the white Toyota pick-up.

Keep an eye on the road...

As winter turns to spring, salamanders and other amphibians will be heading to their breeding grounds. But the journey poses a risk for the creature.

About the Bronx River Parkway Reservtion Conservancy

The Bronx River Parkway Reservation Conservancy is an advocate for the protection and preservation of the nation's first public parkway. With a speed limit of 40 miles per hour, the parkway was built exclusively for automobile use... albeit those of another era.

Today the Bronx River Parkway serves the county as an important transportation link. The Reservation is a defining geography and unifying factor along its 12.5 miles from the Bronx border to Kensico Dam. It provides much-needed and much-used greenspace, passing through densely populated urban areas like Yonkers, Mount Vernon and White Plains, as well as the hamlets, villages and towns of Bronxville, Tuckahoe, Crestwood, Eastchester, Scarsdale and Hartsdale.

The Bronx River Parkway Reservation Conservancy links concerned citizens with the Westchester County government, which owns and maintains the road, pathway and extraordinary parkland that was created over 80 years ago. The river which travels through Westchester and the Bronx to Long Island Sound is currently the subject of major regional water-quality and environmental initiatives.

In recognition of the intact historic character of the Reservation, its 10 northernmost miles were listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1990. It was designated a New York State Scenic Byway in 1995.
