This is the time of year when we reach out to the principals and guidance teams at Bronxville, Eastchester, and Tuckahoe public schools to invite them to nominate students for the Michael Frey Scholarship!

The Community Funds bestows these scholarships annually in honor of Police Office Michael Frey who was killed in the line of duty. In doing so we also aim to honor and celebrate all of the first-responders who serve the Town of Eastchester.

Each school system may allocate $3,000 in scholarships to students who fit the following criteria:

- The scholarships are designed to support a student (or students) with demonstrated financial need to help cover the costs of higher education.

- The student(s) should exemplify high community standards, and have contributed in a meaningful way to the school community and the community at large.

There is no application process. School guidance counselors will notify us of their school’s nominations.

Thank you all for contributing to this critical support of our local bright minds and their future contributions to the community and society! 🎓

We are SO fortunate that many in our community help to move society and health forward locally, and often, globally. One such expert is Community Fund Board Member, Darla Silva, Chief Program Officer at UNICEF USA. Darla and her family currently live in Tuckahoe and lived in Bronxville for many years. In early February, the Youth Community Fund invited Darla to speak to the membership about humanitarian and development aid to children around the world. Darla also underscored the importance of youth councils and youth involvement in local human and social initiatives, and praised those gathered for their volunteer work and interests in these area. Maya Mincak, a YCF member and Community Evaluator, wrote about Darla’s visit. Read Maya’s article and access an article Darla wrote about “The Benefits of Building Classrooms Out of Recycled Plastic Bricks,” for the UNICEF Innovation blog at the NEWS link in our profile.

Night 1 of Community Evaluation 2026 in the books! We are switching things up this year, bringing our grantee agencies and Community Evaluators together at the TOP of the process so everyone can understand what the agencies are doing in the community, what they are facing in the year ahead, and get acquainted BEFORE this spring’s agency visits (and Zooms). Tonight, we featured agency leaders from The Bereavement Center of Westchester Bronxville Tree House; .conservatory; and Eastchester Senior Programs and Services; ; ; ; ; and Thanks to for allowing us to use their space, and to our board and Evaluation Co-Chairs for their support in setting the stage for a meaningful community dialogue around mutual aid, our grantees’ incredible impact, and neighbors helping neighbors. DID YOU KNOW Westchester’s nonprofits have seen an $8 million reduction in funding over the past year? Cities and towns across the county have lost $17 million, and subsidies for services for individuals and families living in the 914 have been cut by nearly $160 million. (Source: NYS Federal Impact Map, Cornell University’s School of Industrial and Labor Relations/Buffalo Co-Lab) The GOOD NEWS is that through The Community Fund, you help support the good work that our local nonprofits and agencies do to care for the most vulnerable among us, largely comprised of the working poor and older adults on fixed incomes. Swipe for a refresher (or a first look!) at all of the agencies your generous donations support: Programs and services for young and old, people with mental and physical differences and disabilities; grieving families; those with cancer; those working through civil legal matters; those seeking enrichment through learning and social engagement; our emergency medical services; community education around safety, healthy living, and cyber security; those who need assistance accessing healthy nutrition, the list goes on! We are 1/2 way to our goal. Please donate today. Link in profile. 🫶❤️🫶 THANK YOU, BRONXVILLE, EASTCHESTER, AND TUCKAHOE.

Last night, we celebrated the incredible work our grantees do, the commitment our board members apply to this work, and the enthusiasm of new friends joining the effort. In the warm and wise words of our campaign chair, Holly Hetherington Collier: “The core of The Community Fund is neighbors helping neighbors – together we all thrive when we tend to the social fabric that connects us, one to each other.” Thanks for showing up for our neighbors this year. ❤️
