This shvpo, or stickball hat, may look surprisingly modern, but it was made by a Choctaw person more than 100 years ago!

Dating to around 1900, the hat was made with denim, red cloth, beads, and thread. It was collected in Neshoba County, Mississippi, in 1908 and is now part of the National Museum of the American Indian collection at the Smithsonian Cultural Resources Center.
