Last chance to complete survey about door-to-door solicitation
The City of Broken Arrow wants to hear from you about a possible No-Knock List as another means to deter door-to-door solicitation. Our survey closes May 18th at 11:59 p.m.:
Peddlers are advised, when properly registering for a permit to sell goods or services door-to-door in Broken Arrow, they must obey city ordinance and not solicit homes displaying “No Soliciting” or “No Trespassing” signs. If no sign is posted, the peddler must also obey the resident's verbal command to vacate the premises. However, the signs and verbal commands are not always an effective means to deter peddlers.
If a peddler ignores your signs or commands, you may call Broken Arrow Police Department at 918-259-8400 to file a report. Unless an officer witnesses the violation, the only means to enforce the law is a call to police for a report to be filed.
A No-Knock List is a registry of addresses voluntarily submitted by residents who do not want to be disturbed by people ringing their doorbell, knocking on their door, or otherwise contacting them in-person at their residence for the sale of goods or services.
The City of Broken Arrow is considering an amendment to the Trespassing Ordinance to include a No-Knock List that would contain addresses of homes where peddlers are not welcome. If such amendment is adopted, the No-Knock List, which would not contain names, would be provided to peddlers during the permit registration process each year. Property owners or residents who wish to participate, would be required to submit their address for placement on the No-Knock list. To remain on the list, property owners would need to submit their address each year.
Including your address on a potential No-Knock List would not guarantee a peddler would not solicit the home. However, the list would be another tool the City could use to discourage peddlers from violating the ordinance.
We would like your feedback about the potential for a No-Knock list. If you haven't already, please take a few minutes to complete this short survey before 11:59 p.m. on Monday, May 18.
