Advocating for C.A.R.D. Head Start and Early Head Start on Capitol Hill!

We are so proud of our staff who recently attended the National Head Start Association’s Fall Leadership Institute in Washington, D.C.!

Our team had the opportunity to connect with lawmakers and congressional staff, share the impact of C.A.R.D. Head Start and Early Head Start, and help educate policymakers on the important role Head Start programs play in the lives of children, families, and communities.

We are incredibly proud of our staff for representing our program and making sure our communities’ voices are heard on Capitol Hill!

October is Head Start Awareness Month, a time to recognize the children, families, educators, and staff who make Head Start such an important part of communities across the country.

For more than 60 years, Head Start has helped children build a strong foundation for school and life while supporting parents and families along the way.

I’m proud to recognize Head Start Awareness Month and the people who make this program possible every day.

On September 23rd, our Broken Arrow Southside Early Head Start classroom and Broken Arrow Early Head Start Home-Based families came together for a Messy Play Sensory Social!

Children, parents, and teachers explored different textures, colors, temperatures, and materials through hands-on activities with spaghetti noodles, water play, whipped cream, colorful ice, sand, and more!

Sensory play is an important part of early childhood development!

As children scoop, pour, squeeze, touch, and explore, they're strengthening fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, language development, and problem-solving abilities.

These experiences also encourage creativity, curiosity, emotional regulation, and an understanding of cause and effect.

Best of all, families get to connect, discover, and learn together through play! 💙

What should decision-makers know about Head Start? Ask the people who experience it every day.

Head Start parents and caregivers understand the difference health services, disability supports, strong classrooms, and opportunities for parent leadership can make for a family.

As the federal government considers changes to Head Start standards, parents across the country are signing a national letter asking that the strengths of Head Start be protected.
