DLMRA DLMRA is dedicated to preserving, protecting and promoting Decatur Lake, the Brodhead Mill Race and their surroundings.

DLMRA is working to support the city in its effort to promote and improve the Mill Race. Our organization has supplied manpower and equipment to the race cleanup. We also have supplied manpower to the WAV stream monitoring program and will continue to support these efforts in the coming years. In conjunction with this effort we are starting to plan how to improve the lake and link the lake improvement plans with the goals of the mill race project.

Wildlife Wednesday...
Ah yes… the elusive tween outside its natural habitat. Rarely spotted outdoors and known for surviving almost entirely on snacks and WiFi, this mysterious creature can occasionally be seen perched quietly on a fallen tree overlooking the river. Approach slowly and avoid sudden movements…like a 🦌,one wrong sound and it’ll disappear back into gaming mode for another 3-5 business days 🎮😂

Jokes aside, a short walk outside can do SO much for you mentally and physically! Get out and enjoy it!

On land, many of Wisconsin’s turtles move at speeds less than 3 miles per hour. That means that when they’re on the move and looking for a place to lay eggs, they have almost no chance of getting out of the way of approaching cars.

You can help by slowing down near lakes, rivers and wetlands and reporting turtle observations, road crossings and nest sites using our turtle reporting form: https://survey123.arcgis.com/share/c442cb3ff48742f29df172587cec5d4a

What a great day for a river cleanup! ☀️🛶

Thank you to everyone who came out Saturday to volunteer and help keep the Sugar River beautiful! 💚

The DLMRA split into 2 groups for the cleanup effort. The first group started at the Headgates and portaged at the dam down to the Cty F Boat Launch. The second group traveled from Cty F Boat Launch down to Clarence Bridge Park. Together, volunteers collected several bags of trash from both the land and water. 🗑️👏

Volunteers that were not able to attend Saturday's event went at different times. One group went on Decatur Lake and the other cleaned up the Mill Race. ♻️

A small group will be tackling the Clarence Bridge to Avon stretch in the next couple of weeks to continue the cleanup efforts. 🌿

Huge thanks again to Albany Conservation Club, Inc for hosting the event, Sweet Minihaha Campground & Crazy Horse Campground for helping make this another successful cleanup! And of course, thank you to all of the volunteers who donated their time and energy to make a difference for our river and community. 🙌💙

Events like this wouldn’t be possible without all of you!

You can check out Frank Kapel's https://www.facebook.com/share/r/18Xuq4jnNg/ post for other organizations & businesses that made this day possible!

Saturday’s the day🛶! PLEASE consider joining us! Albany Conservation Club, Inc is holding their annual Spring Sugar River cleanup. 🗑️ Sweet Minihaha Campground is taking care of our friends upstream while Crazy Horse Campground is taking care of us.

Here is a message from one of the organizers from the DLMRA regarding our portion of the cleanup. Feel free to contact him with any questions! 📞 You can also check out Albany Conservation Club, Inc page for more details.

Those volunteering to help with the DLMRA's portion of cleaning the Sugar River will meet at Crazy Horse Campground (County Hwy F just west of Brodhead) between 9:30 and 10:00 Saturday morning May 16. There will be donuts 🍩 for consumption before we get underway. Lunch will be provided for those registered with us in advance. 🥪

Crazy Horse has a designated "overflow parking area" that is the first thing you come to on the RIGHT before you get to the main building. 🚗 See photos showing it on their map and the area. We are asked to park at the back of the area. Look for people in DLMRA attire.

Once all are gathered, Crazy Horse will transport us and the boats 🚣 to the County Hwy F access to the river. We'll most likely stop at the "park" adjacent to the Hwy 11 Bridge on Mount Hope Road for lunch. We'll then proceed down into the Avon Bottoms area to clean the river. 🌊Take out location determined by how far we get. This all can take several hours. ⏳

Volunteers may wish to bring their own life jackets 🦺, but Crazy Horse provides them as well. Expect to get muddy and wet. 😅 We have some rubberized gloves and a few gathering sticks and plenty of bags. Fun anticipated! 🎉
