Recently, our team revisited Sunny Peace Prairie following a prescribed burn completed earlier this year. As part of our ongoing monitoring efforts, woodland transects were conducted to assess vegetation response and track ecosystem health. 🍃

We’re already seeing encouraging signs of recovery, including the regrowth of native species such as columbine and Solomon’s seal. 🌿

Monitoring before and after management activities is an important part of land stewardship, helping us understand how restoration practices like prescribed fire support healthy, resilient ecosystems!..

Join the Wisconsin Prescribed Fire Council and the Lower Sugar River Watershed Association for a field trip on July 18!

We’ll tour a private property undergoing a prairie and woodland restoration, and we’ll hear from the landowners about their use of prescribed fire in that process. 🔥

This will be a great opportunity to learn about how to conduct prescribed burns on private lands, and how to work with other landowners to do so sustainably and cost-effectively.

Our SWLC Stewards helped remove over 100 gallons of garlic mustard at Sunny Peace Prairie this morning! 🌿

Garlic mustard is an invasive species that can quickly outcompete native plants, making volunteer efforts like this so important for protecting and restoring our prairies. We are incredibly thankful for everyone who came out to lend a hand and make a difference!

Introducing the Wild Geranium! 🌸

Wild Geraniums are a beautiful native wildflower commonly found in woodlands and shaded areas. Blooming from spring into summer, the seed pods of the Wild Geraniums actually burst open and launch seeds away from the plant! A perfect pop of color for any native garden. 🪏

Join us for a guided Trail Walk: Three Waters Reserve in partnership with the Aging and Disability Resource Center of Rock County! 🥾

Located on Decatur Lake, this 70-acre property was once the Decatur Lake Golf Course and Country Club. Now restored to its natural state by the Southern Wisconsin Land Conservancy, it features trails that wind through oak prairie savanna, open prairie, and wetlands.

A haven for wildlife, the property is a popular birding hotspot and supports a rich diversity of native species. Anyone is welcome! ..
