POTENTIAL DATA CENTER SITE BEING MARKETED IN JEFFERSON COUNTY
JEFFERSON COUNTY, Pa. — A large parcel of land near Brookville is being marketed commercially as a potential site for a future data center, raising both interest and concerns among local leaders. The parcel is just outside of Brookville.
The more than 1,000-acre property, advertised as a Sulgar Rd address, is being advertised as a “hyperscale” data center location with access to up to 390 megawatts of power. The land is currently under contract, though no official development plans or buyer have been publicly announced. The marketing ad advises the area is in an un-zoned township, allowing for minimal entitlement risk.
As data center demand continues to grow nationwide, the possibility of a major project in Jefferson County has prompted discussion about potential impacts. Officials noted there is still much to learn about how these facilities could affect rural communities.
Among the concerns are limited zoning oversight, as the property sits between two townships, and the potential strain on local water resources. Officials say large-scale water usage could impact nearby streams, wildlife, and recreational activities. Residents posted to local social media sites with their concerns.
Local leaders say they are continuing to monitor the situation as more details become available.
