One in seven children in Massachusetts live in poverty and struggle to pay for menstrual products. That's a real statistic, right here in our community. For teens experiencing crisis at home and involved with our state’s child welfare system, the need is even greater.

Help the Deborah Sampson Chapter assemble Period Kits during our February 14 meeting. You can purchase products for the kits from our Amazon Wishlist: https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/2T7RGWAU87GB?type=wishlist&filter=unpurchased&sort=custom&viewType=list

Helping Teens Feel Seen, Supported, and Cared For 💜

At our February meeting, the Deborah Sampson Chapter, NSDAR will be assembling feminine hygiene kits for teens in the care of DCF. These simple but essential items can make a meaningful difference bringing comfort, confidence, and dignity.

We would love your help in making this project possible. If you’re able, please consider purchasing an item from our Amazon Wishlist so we can fill as many kits as possible before our meeting on February 14.

Shop the wishlist here: https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/2T7RGWAU87GB?type=wishlist&filter=unpurchased&sort=custom&viewType=list

Every item donated is a small act of kindness that adds up to something truly powerful. Thank you for helping us care for the teens in our community.

Today we remember Deborah Sampson on what would have been her 265th birthday. Born on this day, December 17, 1760, in Massachusetts, Deborah Sampson enlisted in the 4th Massachusetts Regiment in May 1782 as Robert Shurtliff, disguising herself as a man. She successfully disguised her gender for several years—even through a gunshot wound to the shoulder—until she fell unconscious during an outbreak of fever in the summer of 1783, and her true identity was discovered.

After receiving an honorable discharge on October 23, 1783, she became the subject of a biography released in 1797 titled The Female Review: or, Memoirs of an American Young Lady. The book was published to help support her application for a pension for her service from the state of Massachusetts, which was granted with the help of champions like Paul Revere. After the war she married, became a mother to four children, and embarked on a successful speaking tour recounting her remarkable story.
