VFW Post 9660 is currently looking to fill our ranks with new members. The post has always prided itself on serving veterans and the community alike and we need new members to help us to continue that goal. If you meet the requirements and would like to join or want to see if you would qualify please email [email protected] or message us on here. If you would like to help and aren't a veteran but have an immediate family member that is. We have a fine Auxiliary that boosts and supports the post so much that needs members as well. Please spread the word! Thank all of you for your support and we look forward to 2021 being a fresh start from last year.

Spike Jam is suspended until further notice!

Thanks to Home Depot, the building will soon have a new heating and cooling system. Mountain Valley Electric will be doing the work, which will take a couple of days to complete. Many thanks to Marquis Lantz of Home Depot for working tirelessly to push this grant through the system. Marquis' grandfather was one of our charter members back in 1947. Every year Home Depot awards grants to Veterans and Veteran's organizations, and "The Rock" is one of the beneficiaries this year. We will also see a new floor soon, as well as a number of other improvements to the building. If you've ever been in the building during the temperature extremes we get in the Valley, you'll find this addition welcome. So, when enjoying our "Spike Jam" bluegrass on Friday nights, or some other event, I think you'll see a very pleasant difference!

We had a Flag Retirement Ceremony at our Post on October 19th. Our partners in this ceremony were the members and some of the parents of the North Mountain 4H Club. It was a wonderful opportunity for all of us to retire American Flags that were too worn and tattered to continue to be displayed. The 4H Group was fantastic, and took part in the burning of a flag, which also represented a larger number of flags we were slated to honorably retire. This ceremony may sound trivial, but when we think about what this flag stands for, we are pulled towards the Freedom that this representation of our unique country means. Thank you 4H of North Mountain, and to to the VFW members who were involved.
