The Sweet Julia Grace Foundation (SJGF) honors the beautiful life & legacy of Julia Grace Knight by serving and loving others who find themselves in the midst of a storm with their child.
~What is a Raindancer? The children blessed through SJGF are lovingly given the name “Raindancers” because despite the storms they face every day, they have learned to “Dance in the Rain."
~SJGF Mission: To Bless, Celebrate, and Love children who are seriously ill, have special needs, or are currently facing a medical crisis. We grant wishes that bring joy and change lives, fill in gaps other services are unable to fill, and provide support with day-to-day needs for families going through the unimaginable with their child. The gifts we provide bring comfort and happiness; and oftentimes dramatically improve and change children’s lives.

WEST VIRGINIA, WE NEED YOU!

We’re rallying our WV community to help stock Vandalia Health CAMC Women and Children's Hospital with caregiver tote bags and Sunshine Boxes for the winter and spring months ahead!

Businesses, churches, schools, clubs, families, and groups of friends can come together to collect supplies and assemble these items for children and parents spending time in the hospital.

💛 Caregiver tote bags provide essentials for parents caring for their hospitalized child.
🌦️ Sunshine Boxes bring fun, activities, and a little distraction to children during their hospital stay.

You don’t have to be a big organization to make a big difference. Gather your people, choose a project, and help us keep CAMC’s shelves stocked for families who need a little extra care.

We are so amazed at the hard work that Jenepher Faulk Esser puts into creating & hosting the annual Bones Murder Mystery fundraiser for The Sweet Julia Grace Foundation. The entire event is just a work of art-and SO MUCH fun! Anyone can join to play a role or just dress up in a costume and enjoy the show. We are so thankful for Jenepher and her great big heart, her crew who put hours into setting this up, Sunshine Ridge Manor who is hosting the event this year, MT DJs who is donating his time to keep the 'wedding' party going, and all of the guests, volunteers and sponsors who make this fun night possible! We can't wait!

WHY WE DO WHAT WE DO!

A sweet story from Raindancer Ethan’s mom, Kristen!

At our SJGF Trunk-or-Treat a few weeks ago, the Toy Story trunk—created especially for Ethan based on the theme his family chose—was more than he could have dreamed of!

His mom shared, “This was a special event for our family to experience together. We were able to forget about an insane morning where Ethan’s nurse called out… and everything went wrong with his home medical routines, making it hard to recover and leave the house.”

Ethan, dressed as Woody, was so surprised to see his name on the sign at his very own trunk! Kristen said he looked at it for what seemed like 10 minutes and didn’t even want to visit another trunk—even with 30 more to explore! 🥹

Despite the stressful morning, Kristen shared that they were able to take Ethan’s lead and “experience Ethan’s pure joy and have a fantastic time together.”

For a family navigating the daily challenges of medical care, the opportunity to set the stress aside and simply experience joy together is such a gift.

And this is what makes our family events so special! Our volunteers and partners come alongside SJGF to create a community where where special experiences bring smiles to the whole family! 💛

Important Review: Davey is LOVING THE RIDE! 🚐✨
As Davey has grown, safely transferring him into and out of the family van has become increasingly challenging. His family needed a way to make those everyday transitions safer and easier for everyone. That’s where SJGF stepped in! 💛

Insurance covered only part of the specialized turning and lowering seat that helps Davey get in and out of the van more safely and comfortably, and SJGF was honored to help make this important piece of equipment possible.

As children grow, their needs change — and sometimes, the right equipment makes all the difference in helping families navigate everyday life with greater safety, comfort, and peace of mind. 💛

A huge thank you to Capital One for helping us bring a little extra comfort to families spending time in the hospital! 💛

The Capital One IAM team recently made more than 60 cozy, no-sew blankets, allowing us to restock the shelves at the Ronald McDonald House DC which serves both the Inova Children's and Children’s National locations!

We’re so grateful for community partners who give their time to help us care for the many families in our region, navigating a medical crisis and hospital stay. Thank you, Capital One, for being part of the dance!

A Murder Mystery YOU can be part of! Dress up, have a ridiculous amount of fun, laugh A LOT, and be part of the mystery- all at the beautiful, brand new Sunshine Ridge Manor in Gainesville. Dinner, drinks, mystery, costumes, and live music. This is an actual blast and all for THE KIDS! 💛

VOLUNTEER CALL: CREATIVE HEART NEEDED! 💛
We’re looking for someone with a creative heart and a passion for art to come alongside one of our teenage Raindancers in Annandale.

Her wish is simple: she wants to learn to be more artistic and figure out how to make some new 'designs' and is hoping someone can help her figure out how to get started. We’re looking for someone who would enjoy meeting with her one-on-one and helping her discover what she’s capable of.

Maybe you’re an art teacher, a rising art teacher, an art student, or simply someone who loves art and loves sharing what you know. You don’t have to have all the answers. You just need a creative heart, some time, and a willingness to encourage a very sweet teenager.

This could be a really special opportunity to share your talent, build a friendship, and help a Raindancer pursue something that brings her joy. 💛

There was something especially meaningful about our visit to the Pediatric ICU (PICU) and Cardiac ICU at Inova Children's last week. 💛

We brought Chick-fil-A lunch (thank you Chick-fil-A Virginia Gateway) and tote bags filled with essentials for parents, blankets and squish mallow gifts for children in the hospital, and restocked the shelves with tote bags for families who will be admitted in the weeks ahead.

We also got to visit with several Raindancer families who were inpatient and meet many new families who have become part of the SJGF family since then.

But the moment we’ll remember most was celebrating one of our own Raindancers, who had been in the hospital since January and finally got to go home! 💛

We just happened to be there for his send-off and we were so glad we could be there to cheer him on, and honored to continue to walk alongside them in the days to come!
