On September 23rd, we reflect on El Grito de Lares—a moment in history that reminds us of the strength, unity, and resilience of the Boricua spirit.

Beyond the history books, today is a reminder of the power of community and the importance of preserving what makes our culture so rich. For us, honoring our heritage isn't just about looking back; it’s about how we gather today.

From preserving our Taíno and Jíbaro traditions to supporting the modern makers keeping these art forms alive, our history lives on in what we build together. Today, we give thanks to the artisans, storytellers, and neighbors who help keep our heritage vibrant every single day.

Today, we celebrate the hands that create, the traditions that sustain us, and the warmth of keeping an island’s embrace alive for everyone. 🌿❤️

Taking a little pause to recharge! 🍂✨

With school starting back up and a busy summer behind us, El Rincón Borikén will be closed on Saturdays throughout the month of September. As a single-person operation, I’m taking this time to rest, focus on my kids, and do all the behind-the-scenes magic to prep for our big annual fall and holiday celebrations!

Back in January, I took a leap of faith and applied for my very first grant. I knew it would take a long time to hear back, but I just kept going, kept working hard, and stayed focused on our mission.

Today, I am so happy to share that we officially got our first grant! 🥹🎉

I didn't do this alone. A huge thank you to the Alice L. Johnson Charitable Trust foundation for believing in us, and to my sweet friend Norma Sullivan who put in such good, trusting words for me and this space. Your support means everything.

I want everyone to know how serious I am about our nonprofit and why we are here. Our culture and our community matter so much. I hope this shows other foundations and donors that when you support us, it goes right back into bringing real culture to our people.

Here is what this money is going to help us do:
🌿 Fund our upcoming small events like La Botánica Mágica and Los Tres Reyes
🇵🇷 Bring even more beautiful, handmade artisan products straight from Puerto Rico to our shop in Bristol!

Amigos!
If you know of anyone living in PR (not vacationing) and are in need of lámpara, flashlight, batteries, fans, solar power fans, water, water tablets/powder, etc.
We may not get through to the community centers or organizations on the island so we will go straight to the people who are in need.

Please contact me however you can either messenger , text/call, email. So we can put together items and prep for shipping.

We are getting ready to set up a dedicated Community Shipping Corner right here at the shop to send direct, grassroots relief items to small, overlooked neighborhood centers in Puerto Rico facing power and water shortages.

No big corporate middlemen, no government red tape—just direct, pueblo-a-pueblo support.

Because infrastructure issues are ongoing, this will be an open, ongoing initiative with no end date. We’ll be collecting lightweight, high-impact essential items (like solar lights, mini fans, batteries, and water purification tools) and shipping them directly to organizers on the ground as boxes fill up.
