The Mountain Empire Children’s Choral Academy (MECCA) is seeking a highly-qualified and energetic person(s) to lead the Explorers program in Johnson City, TN. For almost 40 years, MECCA has sought to enrich the lives of youth in the greater Tri-Cities region through a program of vocal music education and through the study and performance of the world’s great choral literature.
The primary purposes of the Explorers are:
~ To introduce and develop music literacy and listening skills, and to learn music fundamentals through singing, movement, games, improvisation, and other activities.
~ To give beginning singers an excellent musical education that emphasizes proper vocal production, posture, breathing, and diction.
~ To provide opportunities to perform age-appropriate repertoire.
~ To offer an exceptional experience that will prepare singers for continued participation in other MECCA choirs.
The Explorers will perform in at least two public concerts
each year with the MECCA choirs.
Job Description
This part-time position involves leading a one-hour weekly class/rehearsal in Johnson City on Monday afternoon 4:15-5:15.
The MECCA calendar runs from mid-August to mid-May, with major concerts in December and May every year.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or higher in Music or Music Education
Knowledge of/experience with Kodály Method and Curwen hand signs preferred
Ability to create and maintain rapport with children ages 6-9
Ability to plan and manage active rehearsals, utilizing age-appropriate teaching methods
Ability to adapt to changing situations
Excellent organizational skills
