April 15th, recognized as Eating Disorder Advocacy Day, is a powerful reminder that recovery is possible—and that voices, especially young ones, can create real change. On this day, advocates from across the country gather in Washington, D.C. to meet with lawmakers, share their stories, and push for policies that support prevention, treatment, and recovery.
This year, advocates are focusing on impactful legislation like The Nutrition CARE Act (H.R. 2495/S.1971), which would expand access to medical nutrition therapy under Medicare Part B. This is a crucial step in making sure individuals struggling with eating disorders can receive the consistent, professional nutrition support they need on their path to recovery.
There are also important Fiscal Year 2027 funding requests, including continued support for the Eating Disorder Center of Excellence. This program helps train healthcare professionals to better recognize and respond to eating disorders through initiatives like SBIRT-ED (Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment). Additionally, advocates are calling for ongoing research funding focused on eating disorders affecting women and girls, ensuring that care continues to improve and reach those who need it most.
As Teen Miss Spectacular America, this day highlights the importance of using your platform for purpose. Whether you are a seasoned advocate or just beginning to find your voice, you have the power to make a difference. By connecting with leaders, learning about policy, and speaking up, we can help shape a future where eating disorders are better understood, supported, and prevented.
Together, our voices matter—and when we use them, we can inspire change that truly saves lives.
