Green Amendments For The Generations

Standing together to defend the Delaware River Watershed from fracking, organizations and members of the public gathered to express support for the permanent frack ban that was instituted by the Delaware River Basin Commission (DRBC) in 2021, following a 2010 moratorium.

Green Amendments For The Generations was one of the organizations in attendance reminding and urging the Commission of not just their duties under the Delaware River Basin Compact, but also for the PA and NY Commissioners of their additional duties under each of their state's Green Amendments.

“The Delaware River Basin Commissioners have clear reasons to defend and enforce the Commission's ban on fracking. In Pennsylvania and New York in particular, defending the ban is also an opportunity to protect the constitutional environmental rights of the people, as outlined in the PA and NY Green Amendments,” said Shaelyn Parker, Advocate & Educator at Green Amendments For The Generations. “Green Amendments For The Generations stands beside the DRBC as they protect our right to clean, safe, healthy environments from the ruthless attacks by profit-first industry and politicians.”

In Pennsylvania, people are beginning to cite this unique law when advocating for their communities against data centers.

Article 1 Section 27 of Pennsylvania's state Constitution guarantees the people a right to clean safe and healthy environment, and that the government must act as a trustee of our natural resources, safeguarding them for present and future generations.

Those of you in the NJ, PA, NY, DE area, will be co-hosting a press conference at the DRBC on Wednesday, September 2nd in Washington Crossing State Park. The DRBC is a multi-state, regional agency that oversees water resources of the Delaware River basin. They've adopted a ban on fracking several years ago in order to keep water resources protected for the millions of people who rely on it. However, there is still pressure from the industry to try to enable fracking within the watershed.
The press conference is to remind the DRBC not to give up their authority and to maintain the ban on fracking in the face of such pressures. Our land and water must be protected!

Green Amendments For The Generations is standing up for clean water and a ban on fracking this Wednesday with other coalition members.

The Delaware River Basin Commission is receiving a lot of pressure from industry groups wanting to frack in the watershed. The ban on fracking that many of us fought for over the past decade and a half is still in place.

The Delaware Riverkeeper Network and other coalition members are holding a press conference outside of the upcoming DRBC meeting on September 2nd, from 11:30 - 12:00pm in Washington Crossing State Park to reiterate our pledge to defend our watershed from this fracking threat.

"The Trump administration is proposing a new rule that would basically give data centers the ability to pollute as much as they want.

"The Environmental Protection Agency’s rule change, The Guardian reports, would remove the Clean Air Act requirement that data centers publicly disclose their air pollution, making the disclosures voluntary at the discretion of state and some local officials. "
