Help us celebrate Patricia Deleon-Blair, LIFE’s DSP of the Year! 🎉

We know how much Patricia brings to LIFE, and seeing her work recognized alongside other exceptional Direct Support Professionals made us incredibly proud.

Patricia received her honor at the Community Provider Network of Rhode Island’s 38th Annual DSP Celebration on September 23, 2026 at the WaterFire Arts Center. This event celebrates the outstanding contributions of Direct Support Professionals who support people with disabilities throughout Rhode Island.

There was so much to celebrate throughout the room. Each recipient represented exceptional work that makes a meaningful difference in the lives of people with disabilities across the state. Being surrounded by people who give so much of themselves to others was a powerful reminder of how necessary this work is, and how much the people doing it deserve our appreciation.

Patricia, we value you, your talents, and the heart you bring to your work. Your skills, dedication, compassion, and care directly improve the lives of the participants you support. Your daily efforts help people feel valued, supported, and connected, and we are grateful to have you on our team.

Pictured below with Patricia are members of the LIFE Administration, her Program Manager, her Area Director, and her family, all there to cheer her on and celebrate her achievement. It was a special moment to share with the people who know just how much she deserves this honor.

To all the honorees, congratulations! And to every DSP who brings patience, skill, and care to this work: thank you. Your contributions matter every day.

September brought many opportunities to connect, learn, and celebrate Rhode Island’s Deaf and hard of hearing community! 💙

For Deaf Awareness Month 2026, the Rhode Island Commission on the Deaf and Hard of Hearing highlighted a calendar of community activities throughout the month—from peer support groups and family gatherings, to workshops, to connection events, a Deaf Awareness Day BBQ, and the Corliss Center’s Annual Deaf Awareness Cookout.

At LIFE, we’re happy to see opportunities like these happening right here in Rhode Island. They help build connections, improve access, and bring greater visibility to Deaf culture and the experiences of people who are Deaf or hard of hearing.

Every disability deserves awareness, and every person deserves respect, belonging, and opportunities to thrive. We all bring our own strengths, perspectives, and ways of experiencing the world—and our communities are richer because of that.

LIFE proudly supports efforts that celebrate people, welcome differences, and make inclusion part of everyday life. We can’t wait to see how Rhode Island’s Deaf and hard of hearing community celebrates in 2027! Until then, let’s carry that spirit beyond September. 💙

✨ Moment to Shine: September 2026 Edition ✨

There are some people whose presence can change the energy of an entire shift. Marquis Jones is one of those people.

Marquis comes to work ready to contribute. He brings energy, positivity, and a willingness to jump in—whether that means helping with the needs of the house, supporting a coworker through a difficult day, or finding a reason to get everyone out into the community. It’s that combination of enthusiasm and dependability that makes Marquis our September Moment to Shine recipient.

One of Marquis’s greatest strengths is the way he communicates and works alongside his team. He understands that a successful shift takes everyone working together, and he does his part to make that happen. Coworkers know they can turn to Marquis for help, and his knowledge of the participants he supports has made him a valuable resource for other staff.

Marquis takes the time to really get to know the people he supports. He keeps up with their plans and goes beyond simply knowing what needs to happen that day. He wants to understand who each person is and what they enjoy. That knowledge helps him find outings and activities that actually reflect their interests rather than simply choosing somewhere to go.

Whether it’s a walk, a trip to the park, a stop at the store, or an entirely new experience, Marquis encourages participants to have a voice in how they spend their time. He gives them room to be themselves, to make choices, and to experience their community in ways that are meaningful to them. Sometimes that means helping someone experience a place or activity they may never have otherwise had the opportunity to try. That is what community integration should be about—not just getting out of the house, but belonging, participating, choosing, and experiencing something new.

When Marquis walks onto a shift, he brings something with him: energy. The good kind. The kind that says: we’re here, we’re ready, and we’re going to make something of today.

Rounding out an absolutely wonderful DSP Recognition Week 2026, the second day of our Spin-to-Win prize wheel was as well attended as the first!

So many prizes awarded, so many smiling faces, so many staff willing to take photos, and so many participants who wanted to share in the photo fun, too! We truly had a great day rewarding and celebrating our DSPs; it's wonderful bringing different parts of our LIFE community together. ❤

A BIG thank you to everyone who stopped by the Main Office on Friday to try their luck at the wheel. We truly do have the kindest, most sincere, hardworking, joyful, and—might I say—photogenic staff! ❤

In addition to being stylish, they're great for representation and recognition when staff are out in the community with fellow staff and participants.
