Mission Blue Nursery

Mission Blue Nursery is a retail & restoration nursery specializing in the native flora of San Bruno Mountain.

We are part of San Bruno Mountain Watch, a non-profit that's been active on San Bruno Mountain for nearly 50 years! Mission Blue Nursery is a non profit project of San Bruno Mountain Watch. We grow locally native plants to support restoration efforts of rare & endangered species on San Bruno Mountain, the peninsula's largest open space. We are open to the public during our spring & fall sales, dur

ing our annual Pancake Breakfast Fundraiser, and by appointment for orders meeting the $100 minimum. Join us every Wednesday from 10-12:30 for our volunteer workdays. Our dedicated volunteers of all ages and experience help us transplant, w**d, wash pots, and maintain our demonstration gardens and annual farms.

Blue blossom ceanothus was the focus of our seed collection event yesterday! Ceanothus and seein’-all-this beautiful Bay Area from the top of mountain!

From May through October, we invite the public to join us as we harvest native seed for ecological restoration efforts on San Bruno Mountain, every other Wednesday! Sign up on our website and join our permitted collection events.

Here is a quick list of some of the species we are especially excited to have available: silver lupine, summer lupine, Douglas iris, hummingbird sage, sea pink, coast buckwheat, seaside daisy, sticky monkey flower, yarrow, California buckeye, blue-eyed grass, and more!

Also join for “Mission Blue Makerspace” activities from 10am to 3pm!

Tables will be set up around the nursery grounds with various self-guided environmental art activities—botanical watercoloring, origami butterflies, clay caterpillars, painting of terracotta pots (then take it home with you!), mountain masks, and more. Fun for families, friends, kids, and adults—all are welcome and these materials and activities are free to do!

We are excited for springtime and our spring plant sale! Welcome the flowery season with beautiful native plants from San Bruno Mountain! Saturday, March 21st from 10am to 3pm. We’ll also have free mission blue makerspace activities set up around the nursery; make a clay-terpillar, origami butterfly, paint a terra cotta pot, botanical illustrations and more!

Wreath-making event at the Mission Blue Nursery was awesome! It was a little wet, but no one minded. All the lovely clippings came from our fabulous demonstration garden!
