Rest in peace, sir 🫡

It is with deep sadness we announce retired Chief Master Sgt. Edward L. Ogden passed away on August 31st.

Chief Ogden began his military career in 1942 by enlisting in the Army Air Corps as an aircraft mechanic. In 1947, he became one of the first to join the newly established New York National Guard 106th Bombardment Group, helping to lay the foundation for what would become the 106th Rescue Wing.

This past March we had the distinct honor of welcoming Chief Ogden back to the base to celebrate his 102nd birthday. During his visit he spoke with members about his more than 40 years of military service, reminding us all how the 106th becomes family.

Chief Ogden is a part of the fabric of the 106th - a thread woven through generations of dedicated and proud service to our community, state and nation. His legacy lives on in the unit he helped shape and in the Airmen who carry the mission forward today.

Our thoughts are with his loved ones and we pray for their comfort as they grieve this tremendous loss.

Operation VEST is incredibly grateful for our ongoing partnership with General Needs and for the opportunity to support the mission of helping veterans in need. Whenever we are able to contribute, it is especially meaningful to see those donations put directly to work in our community.

This morning, we had the honor of joining General Needs at a homeless veterans’ shelter in Brooklyn, where we distributed clothing and sneakers to the residents, shared snacks, and, most importantly, spent time bringing smiles and encouragement to these deserving veterans. We even came together for 22+ 1 -push-ups—a small but powerful reminder of strength, resilience, and camaraderie.

We are truly honored and humbled to play a small part in supporting veterans who have given so much. We are grateful to General Needs for allowing us to be part of this meaningful work and to all of our supporters who help make these moments possible. Together, we hope to continue inspiring, encouraging, and reminding our veterans that they are never forgotten and never alone.
