In case you were wondering what we meant by “Strong Looks Like Her…” 💗
Meet Jamie.
Jamie is the owner of Modern Daisy Boutique, one of Jane's House biggest cheerleaders, and quite literally one of the women who inspired what Strong Looks Like Her is meant to represent.
Our relationship with Jamie started pretty simply. I walked into Modern Daisy looking for a few things for a Jane’s House project. Jamie asked if I was shopping for myself, and I told her, “Actually, no. They’re for my nonprofit.”
So I told her about Jane’s House.
Her response was basically, Oh my gosh, I love this. I’m not taking your money.
And she didn’t.
Not only did Jamie refuse to let me pay for the things I had picked out, she added more items, gave us a gift card, and told me she wanted to help however she could. Since then, she’s invited Jane’s House to participate in her events, given us a platform to share our mission, donated again, and continued cheering us on.
Even with THIS project, Jamie wanted to sponsor it and donate the money.
We said, “Nooooooo! We want to support YOU and a woman who is STRONG like YOU!”
She reluctantly agreed… and then proceeded to offer financial support AGAIN. 😂
And all the while, Jamie has been fighting a battle of her own.
Last year, genetic testing showed that Jamie carries a CHEK2 mutation, which increases her risk for certain cancers. Because of that, she was being closely monitored every six months—and that monitoring helped catch her breast cancer incredibly early.
Jamie was diagnosed on May 28, 2026, with stage 0, grade 2 breast cancer in her right breast. Doctors also found abnormal cells in her left breast that increased her future cancer risk, so a double mastectomy was recommended.
She underwent surgery on June 29. Her surgeon was able to get clear margins, the cancer was contained, and at this time she does not need additional cancer treatment.
But that doesn’t mean the road has been easy.
Jamie has dealt with surgical complications, an allergic reaction to surgical glue, slow healing, and lymphedema treatment—all while continuing to carry the responsibilities of being a small-business owner.
And somehow, in the middle of all of that, she has continued worrying about how she can support OTHER people.
That is why we chose Modern Daisy.
Because when we say Strong Looks Like Her, we aren’t talking about a woman who has everything together or whose life is easy.
We’re talking about women who keep showing up. Women facing cancer. Women in recovery from substance use disorders. Women healing from or experiencing domestic abuse. Women raising families, grieving, rebuilding, caregiving, starting over, or quietly carrying things most people know nothing about.
Women who deserve to have someone pour a little kindness back into THEM.
Jamie has spent a lot of time pouring into Jane’s House and our community, and we’re incredibly grateful that she’s allowing us to share her story.
So when you nominate a woman for Strong Looks Like Her, know that the place we’re sending her to isn’t random.
