Prelude Home was a dream of many of our board members and volunteers, to be able to help women when they are at the most vulnerable part of their life. Divorce or displacement can be such a chaotic time in our lives and we all know someone who has gone through it, maybe even you. Our founder found herself moving 4 times in just the first year after separating from her husband of 27 years. It can take a year or more for a divorce to finalized and assets divided. Many women find themselves in a financial, emotional or spiritual situation that may take time to get out of. This is where Prelude Home wants to help.

Our goal at Prelude Home is to provide a safe, economical shared home environment that offers each resident a place to live in dignity, friendship, support and community. With the help of local agencies our residents will have access to counseling, classes on money management, how to shop economically, cooking and extending meals, gardening to grow their own food, canning, co-dependency, self-esteem. Plus with our volunteers and mentors there will be more opportunities of these women to pursue a new career or hobby.

Prelude Home is a new nonprofit to fulfill a need that is growing globally, homelessness among Women. The largest group of homeless women are the Baby Boomers and it has grown tremendously. there are many reasons for homelessness and Prelude home is here to help those women who have found themselves in this position due to loss of job, Widowed, Divorce or low paying job. The largest group of women getting divorce are age 65 and older and it has grown 30%, many of these women were the housewife, or retired and will need new job skills to reenter the work force. Those with part time jobs or low paying jobs will also need new job skills to become confident independent women of our community. These women have relied on their husbands for many of the household chores or duties and may need to learn how to manage their household alone.(examples: finances, house repairs ect.). this is how Prelude Home can help them with an affordable shared home, access to local community recourses and counseling, mentors to teach new life and work skills.
