ABOUT THE GOVERNOR'S CUP: The New Jersey Governor’s Cup was awarded to a fishing club from 1938-1953 for an inter-club fishing tournament between New Jersey and New York fishing clubs. The cup was retired in 1953 when the tournament was discontinued and the MRMTC was the last winner of this prestigious event. The Cup was resurrected in 2017 for “War at the Shore” with a
tournament between the MRMTC, Beach Haven, Forked River, Ocean City and Cape May Marlin/Tuna Clubs.

Manasquan River Marlin & Tuna Club held its 33rd Annual Offshore Open on August 23rd through September 1st. Participants fished any two of nine days spanning over two weekends. Day trolling and overnight chunking is allowed. The tournament is geared to promote competition and comradary amongst the best local captains and crews who must leave and return by way of Manasquan Inlet. This format also allows the widest weather window of any offshore tournament on the east coast to facilitate canyon capable boats of all sizes.
Sixty four(64) boats competed for $131,000 in prize money. Just as in last year’s contest, anglers enjoyed an exciting bigeye tuna bite with multiple hook ups and many fish weighing in at over the 150 pound mark.
