Despite the rain forcing the cancellation of the parade and moving our Memorial Day ceremony indoors at the American Legion, our community still came together in a meaningful way to honor and remember those who gave their lives in service to our country.
Before the storms rolled in, we were able to provide honors at the California School Cemetery, including the rifle volley pictured here.
A special thank you to Commander Tim Quardokus, who did a tremendous job quickly organizing the indoor ceremony and helping ensure the day remained respectful and memorable for everyone in attendance.
We were especially honored to hear remarks from our guest speakers, including Chuck Heit and Miss Bridgman 2026 Kate Starbuck, the Bridgman Blossomtime Queen, whose words helped make the ceremony meaningful and memorable for all in attendance.
We were also honored to have so many distinguished guests and community members present, including Mayor Jan Trapani, Lake Charter Township Supervisor Zach Carson, the Bridgman Police Department, Berrien County Sheriff’s Department, Fire Department, Mr. Bridgman Kaden Gibson, the Bridgman Queen’s Court, local officials, veterans, families, and supporters from throughout the community.
A very special thank you goes to our Honor Guard team: Deb, Dennis, Bob, Gene, Joe, and Chuck, who provided honors both at the California School Cemetery and again at the Post following the indoor ceremony. Their dedication, precision, and respect helped ensure our fallen veterans were honored with the dignity and remembrance they deserve this Memorial Day.
While the ceremony was taking place, Randy, Russ, and Walt of the Legion were hard at work grilling hamburgers and hotdogs for our veterans, families, and guests. Their wives, Rhonda and Marianne of the Auxiliary, headed up the food setup with help from fellow Auxiliary members Christine and Lynette. A special thank you as well to Patty and Mike, whose help and quick work were essential in preparing the Post for the indoor ceremony after the weather changed our plans.
Thank you to everyone who helped make the day meaningful despite the weather. Most importantly, we remember and honor the sacrifices of our fallen heroes this Memorial Day.
