Parker Deshfly: I invited Parker to share his story with our Rotary Club after seeing a post about him online. We need to embrace kids like Parker, share their experiences and give them the guidance that we, as Rotarians, have learned throughout our history of being called to serve... he doesn't have a page, but his father is permiting me to share Parker's story...

When Parker Deshfly was just six years old, a family vacation in Georgia moved him in a direction no one anticipted. During this trip, Parker met a veteran living with post-traumatic stress disorder. Parker’s uncle planned to take the veteran deep-sea fishing—at no charge—so he could spend a peaceful day on the water, relax, and get some distance from the burdens he carried. When Parker learned that his uncle personally covered the boat’s fuel, Parker gave him his entire $20 vacation allowance to help pay for the trip. It was a small gift with a remarkable purpose and the beginning of Parker's desire to fund the fuel to help a vet..

Even after returning home, Parker could not forget the veteran—or the difference a day of fishing might make. He decided to raise money so his uncle could take more veterans out on the water. Imagine, a 6 year old wanting to follow through on a mission like that!!! Living near a golf course gave him an idea: he began collecting lost golf balls and selling them to support a fuel fund.

In his first year, Parker raised $750. Last year, his effort grew into a donation of more than $11,000—all to help cover fuel costs and give more veterans the opportunity to experience time on the water.

Parker’s story is proof that service has no minimum age. He saw a need, responded with empathy, and transformed one generous decision into a lasting mission. He truly embodies Service Above Self—and reminds us that young people are capable of extraordinary impact when their compassion is encouraged and supported.

We need to celebrate and support more young people like Parker— children who recognize a need and are called to action and have the courage to answer it.

If your club would like to support Parker’s mission, please send me a private message to learn how you can help.

Message to Rotary Club Members
Dear Fellow Rotarians,
I am delighted to share and celebrate the wonderful news that our club has received the Club Excellence Award from Rotary International. This recognition is a meaningful acknowledgment of the dedication, service, and teamwork that define who we are as a club.
What makes this award truly special is that it belongs to every one of you. Our club is great because of the people in it—members who show up, step forward, offer ideas, give their time, and support one another whenever there is work to be done. Time and again, this membership comes together with generosity, enthusiasm, and a shared commitment to making a difference.
The work we do in our community and beyond is possible because of your willingness to serve and your belief in Rotary’s mission. Whether through hands-on projects, fundraising, fellowship, leadership, or quiet behind-the-scenes support, each contribution matters. Together, we continue to demonstrate what can be accomplished when committed people unite around service.
Please accept my sincere thanks and congratulations. I am proud to be part of such an outstanding group, and I am grateful for the spirit, energy, and heart that each of you brings to our club. This award is a reflection of all of us—and it is well deserved.
With appreciation and Rotary pride, Jodi

❤️ The Rotary Club of Somerville & Bridgewater is proud to stand with our community for the "Rally for Reagan," fundraiser. Reagan is the newborn daughter of the owners of Turf, Surf & Earth.'s Restaurant in Somerville. To show our support, we hosted our lunch meeting at their restaurant and were deeply honored to make a donation to the family. You’re in good hands Reagan.🤝✨

With Somerset County 4-H – I just got recognized as one of their top fans! 🎉 So sad the fair wasn't able to run full steam this year because of weather BUT kudos to the 4H team for staying on top of things and making sure everyone is safe when storms are rolling in... I don't know how the do it, but they evacuated the entire fair minutes before a downpour exploded over the field...
