The historic barn at the Peardon Preserve on Warner Road is receiving a new wood shingle roof this week. We extend our deepest gratitude to the Ellen Knowles Harcourt Foundation, Cady Builders, and the many generous donors whose support has made this project possible. This barn is an important part of Bridgewater’s agricultural heritage, and we hope all who wander by will enjoy this classic beauty.

Slow Down For Wildlife!
Bridgewater resident and Land Trust volunteer Lorraine Lorenzini has created this eye-catching design to encourage motorists to slow down in areas where wildlife frequently cross our roads. She has paired her illustration with information about each of the featured animals, compiled from the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (CT DEEP). Lorraine hopes this educational resource will encourage drivers to be more mindful, helping to protect Bridgewater's wildlife while making our roads safer for everyone. To request copies of the poster and accompanying wildlife information, please contact Lorraine at [email protected].

The Bridgewater Land Trust was delighted to welcome four summer interns on Friday—Daphne, Lorea, Wade, and Jackson—through the Housatonic Valley Association internship program. Their hard work and enthusiasm made a tremendous impact at Tappen Brook Trails, where they built a new bridge and helped prepare the course for our upcoming 5K Trail Race.

Today we celebrated the first harvest from the Giving Garden at the Jim Allen Farm Preserve! We gathered a beautiful bounty of yellow squash, cucumbers, two varieties of lettuce, kale, and sweet gold cherry tomatoes. Once harvested, the produce is washed and delivered to the Bridgewater Food Pantry, where it will provide healthy, locally grown vegetables to neighbors in need. Pictured is Alison Birks (left) the garden manager and BWLT Board member and garden volunteer Leslie Granger.

As part of Bridgewater's America250 celebration, the Bridgewater Land Trust, in partnership with the Northwest Connecticut Land Conservancy (NCLC), has installed a permanent historic marker at Tim Pond honoring Bridgewater's Revolutionary War hero, Timothy Randall. Tim Pond was named by the townspeople in Timothy Randall's honor after his remarkable return to Bridgewater in 1777 following months of captivity aboard a British prison ship during the Revolutionary War. The marker commemorates Randall's courage, resilience, and enduring place in Bridgewater's history.
