🎬 A Tribute to Dolly Parton – 9 to 5 at the Eureka Theater

We are heartbroken by the news that Dolly Parton passed away at the age of 80. She was a true American icon whose music, laughter, and generosity touched millions of lives. Like so many of you, we have loved her for as long as we can remember.

In her honor, we are hosting a special screening of 9 to 5 on September 26 at the Eureka Theater. This is the 1980 comedy that introduced Dolly to movie audiences everywhere, starring alongside Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin.

The evening will start with a sing along of classic Dolly songs. Our song leader will be announced soon! Dolly costumes are encouraged for EVERYONE. Break out the wigs, the cowboy boots, and the big blonde hair.

This screening is a fundraiser for the Bridgeville Community Center, the local organization that runs Dolly's Imagination Library in Humboldt County. The program sends free books to kids from birth to age 5, with over 1,800 kids currently enrolled. Dolly believed every child deserves a book to call their own.

The Bridgeville Community Center will be tabling in the lobby to discuss the program. Stop by and say hello!

Thank you for this article. We thank Supervisor Bushnell and the Board of Supervisors. The Bridgeville Community Center, along with Dolly, want to create a lasting legacy in our community - having the Imagination Library here for future generations of children. Every book in the hands of a child can be a seed of imagination that could last a lifetime. The books are mailed free to the families each month. As the partner, we have to fundraise to cover the costs that are payable to the Imagination Library. We thank the community for their support, and look forward to working with the community to ensure that the program is sustainable through donations and grants. As Dolly Parton says, "You can never get enough books into the hands of enough children."

Fourth District Supervisor Michelle Bushnell noted that her grandkids enjoy the books they have received through Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library program.

A big Thank You to Ruby, Elle and the musicians at the Dolly Tribute at the Arcata Playhouse, for having the fundraiser for our Imagination Library Program. One positive way to honor Dolly and her legacy is to send a donation to the Imagination Library. It was a very nice event, honoring Dolly in song and her Imagination Library. As Dolly says, "The seeds of these dreams are often found in books and the seeds you help plant in your community can grow across the world."
