What is the Vagus Nerve?
The vagus nerve is the longest and most complex of the 12 cranial nerves. The vagus nerve transmits information through the body from the surface to internal organs and tissues. It works as part of the autonomic nervous system, which consists of the parasympathetic and sympathetic nervous systems. The vagus nerve has four key functions: sensory, special sensory, motor, and parasympathetic. It regulates several critical aspects of human physiology like heart rate, blood pressure, sweating, and digestion.
