Gateway celebrates two newest Certified Community Action Professionals (CCAP).
Michael Cupeles, CCAP of the Gateway Male Initiative and Karen Houser, CCAP of Gateway CAP's Woodbine Head Start program were recognized at the National Community Action Partnership (NCAP) 2026 Annual Convention held September 2–4 at the Hyatt Regency St. Louis at the Arch. The convention theme "Anchored in Purpose, Moving in Strength" showcased the power of Community Action that Gateway embodies.

The CCAP recognizes professionals who have demonstrated the knowledge, skills, and leadership competencies needed to advance the mission of Community Action and effectively serve individuals, families, and communities experiencing poverty. GATEWAY FORWARD a Team Building exercise/training and the opportunity to recognize our Founder and CEO Albert B. Kelly was held on Monday, August 31 at Liberty Lake Day Camp in Bordentown, NJ. Gateway employees learned about the priorities for our new President, Ed Bethea, CCAP; available services through the Gateway Wellness Center; and a new benefit and IT platform Gateway will be offering. The Gateway Choir stole the show in honoring Mr. Kelly; and staff longevity/achievements were celebrated before all enjoyed a great lunch and the amenities of LLDC. Thank you Gateway, our event volunteers and the planning committee for a great event!

Every August, Gateway CAP WIC celebrates National Breastfeeding Month and honors the strength of breastfeeding families.

The 2026 theme, “RISE,”: Resilience • Interdependence • Self-Determination • Empowerment, highlights that breastfeeding is supported through education, encouragement, and community care. World Breastfeeding Week (August 1–7) reinforced the importance of strengthening what works to support families.

Supporting Families Every Step of the Way; Every breastfeeding journey is unique. Families may face challenges, and Gateway CAP WIC is here to help with education, counseling, resources, and encouragement to support their feeding goals.

Throughout August, WIC offices are hosting events to bring families and community partners together all of our WIC sites.

· Atlantic City clinic celebrated with CROPS Farms, healthy smoothies, and breastfeeding education activities

· Camden Clinic held a Community event with vendors, screenings, ROOTS Farmers’ Market, and family activities.

These events connect families to resources, healthy foods, and breastfeeding support in a welcoming environment.

WIC is celebrating moms by distributing special bilingual onesies, personal story cards, and photos at select offices. These efforts highlight and honor each family’s unique breastfeeding journey.

Gateway CAP WIC is also sharing breastfeeding and nutrition education through social media to extend support beyond our offices to provide community support all month long.

We are proud to support families, partners, and communities working together for healthy beginnings.
