We love celebrating the diversity of our Adult English Education students, and "Recipes From Our Community," the cookbook that students and teachers from the program compiled, is a great way to do it!

Don't sleep on this one for Brazilian Cheese Bread! 🍞🧀

Recipe by O. Rivera (Brazil)

Teachers: C. Stafstrom (English), C. Lochard (Computers), K. Callahan (Math)

Yield : 20 people

Preheat Oven: 350 F

Ingredients:

2 cup tapioca flour

1 cup hot water

2 egg (large)

½ tsp salt

½ cup vegetable oil

2 cup cheese - Mozzarella, cheddar, parmesan ( any combination of cheeses mixed together)

Directions for cooking:

1. First, put the tapioca flour in the large bowl

2. Add salt to the flour

3. In a saucepan, mix the water and oil and heat on high for five minutes. Then mix it into the flour. Let warm flour mixture sit for 10min

4. Next, beat 2 eggs and pour them into the flour mixture. Mix well

5. Pour the cheese into the mixture. Mix with your hands and form into small balls.

6. Grease the pan well with vegetable oil.

7. Place the dough (about 1 tablespoon per ball) on a baking sheet.

8. Bake at 350 F for 30min or until golden brown.

September was a month of warmth, nourishment, and community. ❤️

Our Feel The Warmth volunteers came together to cook and serve 920 hot, nOURishing meals to our neighbors in need.

Every represents a helping hand, a welcoming table, and a reminder that no one in our community should have to face hunger alone.

Thank you to every volunteer, donor, and community member who helps make Feel The Warmth possible.

Volunteerism is the recognition of this interconnectedness in which we all reside, and reaching out to uplift those parts that need it most.

It is being a steward of community—one shopping cart or grocery bag at a time.

It is being a resource when all other resources have failed...

This , our October fundraising endeavor that focuses on supporting our Super Food Pantry, hits a little different this year; for our neighbors are constantly being swarmed by reminders of the systems that have failed them, namely cuts to programs like SNAP...

We need to keep our shelves filled with the essentials that our neighbors are no longer able to receive due to the cuts—things like milk, eggs, coffee, masa, oil, and flour (we call this our 'Bridging The SNAP Gap' initiative).

Band Central APPRECIATION POST! 🎸🥁

For the third year in a row, Band Central is teaming up with us for nOURish ROCKS BRIDGEPORT, our benefit concert at Park City Music Hall!

Founded in 2005 by Rob Fried, who combines expertise in business and music, Band Central brings together nonprofits, musicians, donors, and audiences through themed concerts. Guided by their mantra, "Show Up, Get Down, and Do Good," Band Central has produced over 190 events and raised nearly $8 million for more than 70 Fairfield County nonprofits.

Rob and company are true gems, and we are so pleased to be joining forces once again in harnessing the power of music to help our neighbors.

On this , we want to take a moment to recognize the incredible teachers who make our Adult English Education program possible.

Every Monday and Tuesday evening, our teachers show up with patience, generosity, and a genuine commitment to helping our neighbors learn, connect, and build confidence.

They’re doing so much more than teaching English — they’re creating a space where people can ask questions, share their stories, make connections, and feel at home.

To every volunteer who gives their time and heart to our students: THANK YOU. Your work matters, and our community is stronger because of you.

Every October is here at nOURish BRIDGEPORT.

It is an emphasis on our Super Food Pantry and raising funds to help keep its shelves stocked. This year, we want to narrow the focus even more onto our Bridging The SNAP Gap initiative within the pantry itself.

Due to the ongoing cuts to programs like the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), our neighbors are unable to buy certain staple items—things like protein (eggs, canned meat and fish), cooking oil, masa, milk, coffee, etc. Things most of us buy and use without thinking twice, but without them, our days would be turned upside down.

So we've taken to purchasing these items and loading them onto our SNAP Gap shelves. But we cannot continue to purchase and provide at this level alone.

WE NEED YOUR HELP...

nOURish BRIDGEPORT was one of 30 organizations to receive a 2026 Fish Church Micro-Grant!

Funded by a historic bequest from longtime Stamford newspaper publisher Kingsley Gillespie and his son, Kenyon, The Fish Church Micro-Grants program has invested more than $370,000 in over 170 Fairfield County organizations since 2023.
