47th Bridgeport Alumni Association Successful
The 47th Annual Bridgeport Alumni Reunion was enjoyed by all in attendance at a new location! To provide more room for a growing crowd, the alumni events were moved to it’s original location from years ago - the newly renovated “old gym.”
Alumni events began on Saturday, May 30th, with the annual Pancake Feed, where 160 plates of pancakes, sausage, and fresh fruit were served! Guests in attendance came as far away as Canada! The following day, on Sunday, May 31st, 130 alumni and guests enjoyed a catered meal by Burger Werx. A BIG THANK YOU to all of you who supported these events with your presence and your donations.
The scholarship recipients and their families were the guests of honor at the dinner. They included: Fallon DeBlois ($500), Logan Levick ($500), Gage Nein ($500), Halle Carter ($1000), Jailyn Nichols ($1000), and Colton Carrier ($1500). The Association has awarded $156,800.00 since the year 1993.
In addition to these awards, James and Connie Green have donated $2,000.00 each in scholarship awards to those senior students demonstrating high ACT scores or academic excellence, pursuing a college degree or tech program. This year’s recipients were Colton Carrier, Halle Carter, and Gage Nein.
A challenge was issued yet again by the Class of 1976, who celebrated their 50th Class Reunion. They presented a donation of $4,176.76 for future scholarships in memory of their deceased classmates. Thank you, CLASS of 1976!
Also in attendance were several classmates celebrating their special anniversary reunions. President Jeff Neely recognized the alumni who traveled the farthest from each tenth anniversary class as follows: 1956 Cecilia (Gusman) Sanchez, Bayard, NE; 1966 Jackie (McKillip) Bown, Phoenix, AZ; 1976 Debbie (Dobrinski) Sipes, Hickory, NC; 1986 Renae Bateman, Owasso, OK; 2026 Logan Levick, Oshkosh, NE, and Halle Carter, Sidney, NE. Special recognition was also given to Madelyn (Coulter) Anderson as the most experienced person in reunion attendance! These alumni will each receive a one-year subscription to the Bridgeport NewsBlade, complimentary of the NewsBlade! THANK YOU!
President Jeff Neely held a brief business meeting introducing members of the Alumni Board as Kay Anderson, Becky Corman, Tammy Dean, Kristen Kraupie, Jeff Neely, Steve Plummer, Kelly Roach, Sara Steer, and Jonathan Seng.
The Board of Directors would like to express our sincere gratitude to the following: Bridgeport Public Schools and Superintendent George Schlothauer, Willis Beyer and his custodial crew, Josh McDonald for his IT expertise, Burger Werx and Sonny’s Super Foods for a wonderful catered meal, the Bridgeport NewsBlade for news coverage and subscriptions, Kraupie’s Auctioneering for the sound systerm assistance, Blanca Lamas and Mario Carillo for cooking the best pancake breakfast, the Dean Family for serving and waiting tables, Kathy Sides, Helen Plummer, Deanne Dider, Grace Dean, and Megan Cline for registration assistance, the Bridgeport NewsBlade for your coverage and complimentary gift subscriptions, Kraupie’s Auctioneer for the use of a very nice PA system; Blanca Lamas and Mario Carillo for cooking the delicious pancakes and sausage; the Dean family for serving and waiting tables; and FINALLY - to all alumni for your donations, your attendance and your continued support!
