🎃 Our annual Trunk or Treat is BACK — and we need YOUR help to make it the best one yet!

On Friday, October 23, we'll gather at Hall Neighborhood House for a fun, safe Halloween celebration that brings joy to the children in our community — and we're counting on YOU to make it an amazing night.

Here's how you can be part of the magic for the families of Hall:

🍬 Donate candy: Drop off unopened bags of candy at Hall Neighborhood House (52 George E. Pipkins Way), Monday–Friday, 8 a.m.–4 p.m. To arrange a candy drop-off, contact Cheryl Delaney at [email protected].
💛 Support with a donation: Can't drop off candy? No problem! You can still contribute to the celebration with a donation — give at hallneighborhoodhouse.org/trunkortreat.

"I'm a street nurse. It is where I belong!"

Last week, we lost one of our dearest friends, Dr. Linda Strong. For many years, she was a strong supporter and advocate for Hall, and an active volunteer at our senior center. She first came to Hall when she started the "Aging with Grace" program, an integral program that gave free vital screenings to our seniors every single Wednesday. And with the help of her Sacred Heart Nursing students, our seniors were given regular information, reassurance, and guidance, all at no cost to them. But her passion for serving our seniors did not end there, as she always encouraged healthy eating and would even bring in vegetables from her garden for our seniors to take home.

Dr. Strong was a warrior for Public Health and always went above and beyond to help those most in need. She was not just a vital part of our senior center, but she was a part of our Hall family. She was a very accomplished, passionate, and dedicated woman who served her community from the beginning until the very end. She had a big smile, and an even bigger heart. We are forever grateful for her service, and we will miss her very much.

Happy Hispanic Heritage Month!

One of our preschool classes celebrated by making handmade heritage shirts. They painted flags on their hands, then pressed them onto t-shirts. Once they were dry, the other preschool classrooms lined the hallway to watch them show off their cool designs in a fashion show. They finished off the celebration with cookies and chips from Hispanic countries.

Students at Hall Neighborhood House represent so many different cultural backgrounds, so even though it is Hispanic Heritage Month, we honored diverse cultures from around the world—including Jamaica, Haiti, the United States, and even some African countries like the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

Thank you so much to the amazing teachers who planned this event. We are so grateful for your inclusion, creativity, and dedication!

It's Fire Safety Month, and some of our Early Learning classes got to go on board a fire truck, learn about the firefighters' gear, and practice what to do in case of a fire. Students also received cool fire hats to take home!

What an incredible day at our Fall Family Festival! 🎉🎉

On Saturday, our community enjoyed bounce houses, face painting, live music, food, a STEM table for demonstrations, Senior Bingo, and a Resource Table with donations of books, clothes, and diapers. In addition, teachers and parents showcased their own entrepreneurial endeavors!

Bridgeport's mayor, Joe Ganim, and Bridgeport Police Department’s Chief of Police, Roderick Porter, stopped by to connect with our neighbors, and News 12 Connecticut came to spotlight the event. “I want to make sure my students feel seen and loved.”

Our next Teacher Spotlight is the amazing Ms. Candy, our assistant teacher in C205!

Ever since high school, Ms. Candy knew that she wanted to be an Early Learning Teacher. She chose Early Learning because she knows just how important that period of development is, and she deeply enjoys watching her students grow, learn, and reach milestones in a loving and safe environment.

Among countless proud moments, some of the most significant have been watching her students graduate and keeping in touch with them and their families as they grow.

Working with children has taught her the importance of patience and unconditional love, and being an assistant teacher has given her the opportunity to learn from several different head teachers. They have taught her so much about how she wants to run her own classroom when she finishes her degree.

Having been at Hall for almost 10 years, and having a strong relationship with Hall through her family, Ms. Candy says that what she loves most about Hall is how supportive her fellow staff members are, and how she is always encouraged to advance her career. She also appreciates how multicultural Hall is, as it has helped her Spanish-speaking skills tremendously.

Starting kindergarten is a big milestone for both children and parents.

The first day of school brings new teachers, new friends, new routines, and lots of new expectations. And while parents may wonder whether their child has practiced their letters, numbers, or sight words enough, some of the most important preparation for kindergarten happens in much simpler ways.

Children thrive at school when they arrive ready to communicate, connect, follow routines, manage emotions, explore, and learn.

This month, more than 20 Bridgeport Public School teachers gathered at Hall Neighborhood House for our first Professional Development STEM training of the school year, led by Hall Neighborhood House's STEM experts and educators!

At our Alan Wallack STEM Center, K-8 teachers used Beebots, Ozobots, and Sphero BOLTS to learn more about robotics and coding, and they practiced creative ways to incorporate these tools and topics into their K-8 classrooms to enhance student engagement and learning. Hall is leading the way for STEM education in Bridgeport, providing STEM resources in all of Bridgeport's public schools, as well as providing teacher training and professional development at no cost to schools and teachers.

When teachers grow, students thrive. Through this essential hands-on STEM training at Hall Neighborhood House, educators are empowered to bring coding, robotics, and innovative learning experiences into their classrooms; equipped to use the newest learning tools and strategies; and inspired to encourage the next generation of creators, problem-solvers, and STEM leaders.

We ❤️ our staff!

This month, staff members received sweatshirts with our 140th anniversary logo on them as a small token of our appreciation. We loved seeing so many team members rocking their new gear, and we are so grateful for each of their contributions to our community.
