I want to let everyone know that I have stepped down from my duties as Fire Chief. This wasn’t an easy decision, and it comes with a lot of reflection and respect for the department and the people we serve.

Serving this community has meant a great deal to me. I’ve been proud to work alongside dedicated volunteers who show up for Bridgeport again and again. Their commitment is real, and so is my appreciation for the support many of you have shown during my time in this role.

Thank you for trusting me, for pushing me, and for standing with our department. Bridgeport deserves the best, and I know the team will continue giving exactly that.

Duties will be taken over by current officers. They are ready and willing to take on the challenge.

🔥 Douglas County Burn Ban Extended 🔥
The annual Douglas County burn ban (Douglas County Code 8.12.101) has been extended through October 15, 2025.

During this time:

❌ Burning yard debris, brush, and other combustible materials is prohibited.

🔥 Open flames and outdoor combustion sources are restricted, with limited exceptions (small recreational fires, gas/propane grills, or as allowed by local fire districts).

✅ Any permitted fire must be attended, controlled, and fully extinguished.

Stay safe and follow all local fire rules.

If you’re interested in becoming a volunteer fire firefighter please stop by this Wednesday! We will be having our EVIP class starting at 5 pm. This will certify you to drive our truck to an emergency. It would be a great start for anyone that is interested in what we do for the community. Again Wednesday the 23rd at 5pm in the fire station.

Happy 4th of July to you all! Be safe and smart while setting off fireworks. This is the last year we will be allowed to light them off. There are restrictions that you have to abide by. With that said Happy Independence Day!

A little fun fact from our community!

💥Throwback Thursday!💥 Celebrating a Local Legend and Bridgeport resident: Clyde Pangborn!

Did you know that one of Bridgeport’s most famous residents was a fearless aerial stuntman and aviation pioneer? ✈️

Clyde Pangborn, born in Bridgeport, WA, in 1894, started his aviation journey in the U.S. Army during WWI. But it was in 1921, when he co-founded the Gates Flying Circus, that he became internationally known for his daring stunts—one of which was changing planes in mid-air! 🤯

One of his most incredible feats happened in 1924, when he helped save stuntwoman Rosalie Gordon in Houston, TX, after her parachute got tangled in his landing gear. (The image featured here shows Rosalie Gordon tangled in the landing gear during that daring rescue. 📸) The risky rescue made national headlines and boosted his fame even more! 🚨

And this was all before his historic 1931 trans-Pacific flight with Hugh Herndon! 🌍✈️ Talk about a local hero!
