Bridgehampton’s history is a story of movement—of people coming, going, and reshaping the community over time. From the Shinnecock people who first cared for this land, to the first European settlers and farmers, to families and workers who arrived from around the world, each wave of migration has left its mark. This exhibition uses art, photographs, and personal objects to bring these stories to life, turning history into something you can see and feel. Visitors are invited to experience how the journeys of the past still shape Bridgehampton’s identity—and to reflect on how movement and migration continue to influence the town today.

The Bridgehampton Museum collects, preserves and interprets
the history of the Bridgehampton community by engaging
the public in our shared cultural heritage.

Bridgehampton Museum was first established in 1954 by a group of concerned local citizens focused on trying to preserve the history and culture specific to our special hamlet. In time the Corwith House would become the main headquarters of the organization. Today, the Bridgehampton Museum is dedicated to the collection, preservation and interpretation of artifacts and documents that tell the story of Bridgehampton’s past and present via exhibitions, lectures, tours, festivals and special events.

The Bridgehampton Museum and Bridgehampton School are proudly collaborating to bring enriching, hands-on cultural history and science experiences directly to local students! As part of this exciting partnership, Stacy Myers and the school planned a special morning together this week .
The morning started with a presentation in the science lab sharing Bridgehampton Museum’s most recent marine conservation work Station Keeper program with the brilliant minds at Bridgehampton School.

What stood out most was seeing their exceptional interdisciplinary curriculum in action. Bridgehampton provides students with collegiate-level resources that seamlessly bridge the gap between scientific theory and practical, real-world application.
Here are a few highlights from the tour:

* Robotics Competition Demo: Watched an exclusive demo of their cutting-edge tech. These students are dialing in their code and hardware for their upcoming competition! It was so inspiring watching the team work in the lab!
* Garden & Greenhouse: A true botany haven and botanical oasis! It was so fun exploring how these living laboratories connect threads of environmental science and agriculture.
* Science Lab & Film Studio: so interesting seen by how rigorous hands-on lab experiments connect directly with digital storytelling and student media.
* Library: The perfect central research hub bringing academic inquiry and all of these disciplines together. 📚
Thank you to the faculty and students for the inspiration.

We are so proud of this partnership, and we wish the robotics team the best of luck in their next match!

BRIDGHAMPTON MUSEUM UNVEILS LARGE-SCALE FOIL WORK BY AMERICAN ARTIST JOHN CHAMBERLAIN
Opening: Saturday, May 23 from 5 to 7pm
At the Nathaniel Rogers House
2539 Montauk Highway, Bridgehampton
RSVP: bridgehamptonmuseum.org or click the link in our bio

The John Chamberlain Estate and the Bridgehampton Museum are proud to announce the outdoor installation of the late American artist John Chamberlain’s BURNTPIANO (Green) (2008) – a large-scale sculpture from the artist’s series of foil works - which will be on view from May 23, 2026 through the end of 2027. BURNTPIANO (Green) will be prominently displayed on the front lawn of the Bridgehampton Museum’s Nathaniel Rogers House located at 2539 Montauk Highway in the heart of the Hamptons.

The exhibition is made possible by filmmaker Lana Jokel, who organized the collaboration between the Bridgehampton Museum and the John Chamberlain Estate. Early in her film career, she made her first documentary on Andy Warhol. Warhol introduced Jokel to a vibrant community of artists in the Hamptons, which led her to capture intimate interviews with many of them in the 1990s, including her close friend John Chamberlain. Jokel and Chamberlain shared a deep friendship from the 1960s until his final days, and she remains a close friend of the estate.

“We are thrilled that Chamberlain’s monumental ‘BURNTPIANO (Green)’ will be displayed at the Bridgehampton Museum, not far from the Chamberlain Estate on Shelter Island, where the concept for this work was first created,” said Alexandra Fairweather, Director of the John Chamberlain Estate and the late artist’s stepdaughter. “His Shelter Island studio was a special place for him, and it’s also where we’ve found a home for his legacy. Like so many artists, the East End of Long Island was a formative place for Chamberlain, and we are honored to celebrate his life and his work with this prominent local installation.”

Corwith House and grounds

The house at 2368 Main Street in Bridgehampton was built in 1825 for William Corwith, who was born in Bridgehampton. It is a five-bay-wide, two-room-deep, two-story late Federal/early Greek Revival style structure with a decorative entry transom and dentil molding along the roof eaves being among its most characterizing features.

Confessions: Personal Essays Take Center Stage
Friday, June 5 from 6 to 7pm
sponsored by

Audiences will have the chance on June 5th to be treated to writers reading their personal essays at “Confessions,” held at the historically renovated Nathaniel Rogers House of the Bridgehampton Museum. Executive Director Connor Flanagan, says, “We at the Bridgehampton Museum are excited to be a host to these amazing writers. Our mission is to be a gathering place for lovers of arts and culture on the East End and this is another exciting way we get to do that!”

Curator of the event, Heather Buchanan, says, “I am thrilled to bring together this incredible group of writers to share their compelling personal stories. On the East End we often focus on visual artists and performers so it is important to support writers as well, especially as their creative craft is being threatened by AI.”

Nathaniel Rogers House

The original House built by Abraham T. Rose in 1824 was a post and beam structure measuring 25 feet by 40 feet with two main rooms upstairs and two downstairs, separated by a central hallway.

In 1840 the home was purchased by miniature portraitist Nathaniel Rogers whose vision to create a Greek Revival structure was realized with the addition of an impressive front portico that included four massive Ionic columns. Rogers also added four large parlor rooms at the front of the house and two similarly designed bedrooms directly above on the second floor, which he also expanded. The third-floor bedrooms were also added along with a tall, slender cupola.  The House went on to be owned by many after Rogers’ death, yet it continues today as one of the last and most impressive examples of Greek Revival architecture on Long Island.

According to the Society for the Preservation of Long Island Antiquities, The Nathaniel Rogers House is one of the most important architectural gems of its style on Long Island. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Susan Engel’s new book, American Kindergarten: Dispatches From the First Year of School tells the stories of 15 kindergarten classrooms, spread across the country. She describes the six promises classrooms make to their children, as well as the different ways teachers keep and sometimes break those promises. She’ll talk about why she undertook this multi-year project, what surprised her along the way, and what people often don’t know about five-year-old children.

Susan’s love of the East End knows no bounds, she grew up in Sagaponack, and all of her K-12 schooling happened there. She went to the Sagaponack school, where her stepfather went before her and her little sister went after her. She met her first true love in kindergarten at the John Marshall School in East Hampton, which she describes in the book. When she was seven her mother Tinka Topping helped start The Hampton Day School, which she and her sisters all attended. As a teenager she ran a summer camp, for children (with Stacey Fredericks) called ‘Small Potatoes. Many years later, she, her mother, her sister Kathy Engel, and her brother-in-law Jon Snow, were all part of the group that started the Hayground School. She relishes the chance to talk about this beloved project at the Bridgehampton Museum, which celebrates the history of her childhood home.
