We had a great time celebrating dragonflies at our annual Dragonfly Day Celebration! This was a collaborative event by SOFO, Friends of the Long Pond Greenbelt, and the Children's Museum of the East End. Participants enjoyed a guided dragonfly search, pond exploration, and crafts all day. Thank you to NY State Assemblyman Tommy John Schiavoni for delivering a wonderful Dragonfly Day proclamation!

Year two of the Eastern Box Turtle Surveys led by Dr. Anna Thonis is in the books! This conservation effort is to understand how urbanization affects populations of Eastern box turtles in New York.

A massive thank you to everyone who volunteered for one of the survey dates! This survey was conducted as part of a collaboration with SOFO, Group for the East End, Seatuck Environmental Association, New York University (NYU), Friends of the Long Pond Greenbelt, and the Andrew Sabin Family Foundation. And a special shoutout to the two trained turtle detection dogs for helping us find the turtles!

All research methods are conducted in compliance with New York State scientific guidelines and with all necessary permits.
