Hermine Downing Scholarship
Application for Academic Year 2024-25
This scholarship was established by the Brewton Council of the Arts to honor Hermine Downing. She was a petite dynamo with a passion for the arts and a gift for encouraging her students. She taught Theater Arts, Speech and Dance along with sponsoring the cheerleaders at JDCC. She helped design the auditorium and then worked to create the Brewton Council of the Arts, an organization whose mission was to expand artistic opportunities for students and area residents. Hermine was widely recognized as the heart of community theater in Brewton; she gathered the youngest children, the oldest adults and everyone in between to stage amazing productions that packed the auditorium at every show.

Eligibility—
1. Applicant must be a college student with a declared major or minor in the arts- visual or performing.
2. Applicant must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher.

An application will only be considered complete if all requested information below is included and received by March 21, 2025. No late applications will be considered.
