Last week, 120 golfers and 26 pickleball players came together for the annual Samuel B. Ross Golf Classic and our second Round Robin Pickleball Tournament, raising over $200,000 for Green Chimneys' special education and nature-based programs!

For Ezrah, the gym has always been a place to channel his energy and work through big emotions. Now, it’s also where he’s discovering his potential as a leader.

As a referee for younger students, Ezrah is learning to remain calm under pressure, model sportsmanship and make confident decisions. Those skills are strengthening his focus, relationships and self-confidence far beyond the gym. What better way to celebrate summer than a garden party? 🪷☀️ The farm team hosted students and staff alike with live music, a student art gallery, home-brewed tea, glitter tattoos and other fun nature-themed activities. Set amongst the many flowers in bloom, it was an opportunity for everyone to take a moment to enjoy the beauty gardens have to offer.

Today we celebrate the life and legacy of Green Chimneys co-founder Myra Ross. Her compassion and belief that every child deserves the opportunity to succeed helped create a place where students continue to heal and grow through meaningful connections with nature, animals, and one another.

On her birthday, we remember her remarkable vision and the difference it continues to make. Happy Birthday, Myra!

At Green Chimneys, we increasingly offer choices to our animals which allows for a greater opportunity for meaningful participation from them. Our goal is to integrate choice into everyday activities with our animal partners. For small mammals, such as guinea pigs and rabbits, habitat features allow them to join interactions, or leave them, at will.

In the farm classroom, guinea pigs cross a ramp from their habitat directly onto the table where students can observe and engage with them, and return to their tank when they like. Since increasing our focus on giving our animals a choice, we noticed a significant decline in nervous behaviors and an increase in sociability with people.
