Boni-Bel Farm received a very exciting delivery! Green Chimneys was awarded a Bee Grant from Whole Foods Market Foundation and The Bee Cause Project šŸ This grant includes a custom observation hive which will allow our teachers to expand the integration of bees into our animal and horticulture programs. As the new bee colony was delivered, they engaged in a fascinating swarming behavior, before they were coaxed into their new hive. We can't wait to share updates as the bees settle in and students engage with this wonderful opportunity to learn more about these essential pollinators.

You can buy honey products from local bees as well as beeswax candles created by Green Chimneys students by visiting the Country Store and Farm Stand. Learn more at: greenchimneys.org/countrystore

Nate arrived at Green Chimneys as an introverted 5th grader who struggled to participate in school and connect with others. This month, he’s graduating high school, serving as a Student Council Representative, working campus jobs, and heading to the Culinary Institute of America this fall.

What changed? A learning environment that helped him feel supported and confident enough to discover his strengths. Nate found the tools to build a future he’s excited about through his activities in nature, with animals, and even his culinary education. ā€œIf I had to pick three words to describe myself my first day at Green Chimneys, the words would be angry, irritable, and destructive. But if I were to pick three now, they would be witty, dependable, and resourceful.ā€ These powerful words from Green Chimneys alum Smith were at the heart of our Annual Spring Gala on May 14.

The evening celebrated the growth, resilience, and possibilities that emerge when students are supported with care, connection, and opportunity. Together, our community raised nearly $200,000 to help continue these life-changing programs for the young people we serve.

We were also proud to honor Erik and Dee Sossa and our corporate partner Encore for their meaningful support of Green Chimneys. Guests helped celebrate a special new tradition as students selected Heidi, a friendly border collie mix owned by Boni-Bel Farm Program Assistant Sophia Miller, as our very first Animal of the Year.

Thank you to everyone who made this inspiring evening possible. View photos from the celebration on Flickr: https://flic.kr/s/aHBqjCUjTW

Once a week, Porter the campus dog makes a special visit to the Occupational Therapy room. His quiet presence can spark engagement and encourage participation. It also helps students practice emotional regulation in real time. When students stay focused and regulated, Porter is more likely to spend time with them.

While Porter and the other visiting dogs add a meaningful layer of motivation, they’re just one part of the process. The heart of the work happens through skilled Green Chimneys Occupational Therapy staff who help students build the tools they need to succeed.
