The riddle break down for everyone!
Tired, captured, a stowaway, but not hopeless I feel,
Oh how the sailors above think this dungeon can hold,
Because I am but a w***h gazing at bars made of steel,
Yet this horrid cage cannot contain our dreams of gold.
(First letter of each line spells TOBY as in 'Toby Island;' Valley BARS road is where the parking us located for MONKS park off Shore road.)
Chains that were meant to bind me failed to lock,
The manacle lay on the floor, fallen from my neck,
A drunkard who threw me in here I can mock,
I silently crawl to the upper deck.
Overboard I jump and outswim the voices,
I drag my self upon the sandy shore,
Through a small inlet I had swam, my soul rejoices,
Poor, haggard, dressed in rags, I will be no more,
(SHORE road to MONKS PARK; Key was hidden by a small inlet.)
I realize I am near friends who can hide me the best,
Friends in robes, I hope ,are resting in an area nearby,
The key to riches weighs heavy on my chest,
A path I follow through the woods, the end is neigh.
(Friends in robes = monks; Loop Trial through the woods)
Upon a bench I rest and think of thee,
I made it with my prize how I wish you were here,
Fare thee well my horrid life at sea,
Alas I hear ruthless followers near.
(Bench both in Monks park and along the Loop Trail)
I cannot find my fiends, I fear that they have moved on,
Down the path I stumble to hide my key,
My heart’s filled with joy as I listen to a large bird sound off over yon,
Upon planks I stand, quick I must be.
(Trail heads down a hill; the key was hidden near an osprey nest; the trail leads to train tracks)
Over 100 planks I walk to see a bridge up ahead,
I pause to see the sun setting on the ships mast,
Is it here I should hide my key in the sand or behind me in the mud instead?
Listening to the men following me I have to decide fast.
(100 railway planks between the end of loop trail to the point across from the key; Sun sets in the west - the marsh where the tiny island was located was on the east side of the tracks, Toby's Island and the ocean are on the west side)
My choice has been made, I cant wait to see you,
On my right a tree hath lay, when it fell is unknown,
Behind me a hunting party has come into view,
Crab holes, muscles, and water chill my feet to the bone
(There is a dead tree sticking out of the marsh; you had to go down the small hill from the tracks and cross the marsh to the small island in the center.)
Above a giant bird circles as the distance I measure,
To prove to you my love this is a true test,
Its only a moment to hide my treasure,
I hide the key, my dear, for a later quest.
(Right on the other side of the osprey nest was the vine covered tree)
Upon a vine encircling a tree,
The key to the treasure hangs on lands end,
The buccaneers pass, they don’t see me, I am free!
Later my love, we will retrieve the key. This is what for us I intend.
(The key was twisted into the vines on the tree. The tree was located at the very end of the island)
--And that's the breakdown! Let us know how you all interpreted the hints and where they lead you!
