Sorry for the last minute reminder, but tomorrow is the day! Mail deliverers will be picking up bagged, non-perishable items along with your mail tomorrow, May 9th.

We’ve talked about the many things we can’t plan on here at the pantry, but some surprises are wonderful! Like receiving a call from our good friends at Brewerton Ace Hardware, asking if we could use a donation of light bulbs for our clients. We quickly said YES! Because if a family is struggling to put food on the table, they’re probably not spending money on household items like light bulbs until the need is critical. So owner Jeff Parzych showed up and helped unload multiple cases of lights for our clients and those in need in nearby communities. Thank you so much, Jeff!!!

Our favorite part of our name is “Community.” Because our local community shows up for us time and time again. We put out a call for storage bins, and storage bins arrived! Some of them even held food donations! Thank you so much. 💗💗💗

Our needs change all the time at the Brewerton Community Food Pantry, which is something we'll be talking about here over the next month or so. Our inventory is constantly changing, depending on what we're able to purchase/receive from the Food Bank of CNY, what we receive from Amazon donations, what we receive from the Grocery Rescue program, and of course, the donations we receive from businesses and individuals in the community. One thing we learn to deal with here is constant change!

For example, right now, we have some specific needs. We currently need ziti/penne, white rice, and egg noodles (note: we do NOT need elbow macaroni). We also need canned (or pouched) tuna and chicken. We could use boxes of mac & cheese, and canned pasta sauce.

And we also need plastic storage bins WITH LIDS for storing food safely in the pantry. We have some, but they tend to break after years of stacking and use. We'd love to add to our bin inventory with large plastic totes with lids (64 gallon and up). They don't need to be new, but they must be clean and intact. In fact, if you want to throw some boxes of pasta or other non-perishable foods INTO a plastic bin and drop it off at the pantry, that would be extra lovely! 😎

As always, you can leave food donations 24/7 in the marked bins at the Brewerton United Methodist Church's side door, or at the pantry entrance toward the back of the same building. Or stop during pantry hours: Tuesday 10:00 - noon, and Thursday 2:00 - 6:00. The church is located at 5395 Orangeport Rd., Brewerton.

Seems like a good time to remind everyone that snow VERY RARELY stops us! We make every effort to serve our clients on schedule as long as it’s safe for our clients and all-volunteer staff to arrive and get back home.

If you are scheduled for pickup or delivery and have any doubts about whether the pantry is open, don’t hesitate to call to confirm at Ph. 315-676-5528 or the pantry cell ph. 315-632-5858.

If we are forced to close, we will reach out asap to inform and reschedule that day’s clients.

NOTE: If you are a client with an order scheduled to pickup and are not comfortable driving in the snow, PLEASE let us know asap. It’s not a problem to reschedule, but it’s much easier to do so before we’ve assembled your order.

Girl Scout Troop #10683, with leader Miranda Pennock, is comprised of girls from Brewerton, Constantia & Cicero. They made it their mission to bring joy & love to others through their special food donations this holiday season. ❤️

The Christmas spirit is alive and well at the pantry this week! The Rainvilles are faithful supporters who always seem to know when our shelves need help and what we need.

HOLIDAY SCHEDULE:

Our normal days of operation are Tuesday mornings and Thursday afternoons. Because Christmas AND New Years Day both fall on Thursdays this year, we will be open only on Tuesdays for the next two weeks. In anticipation of this, we worked hard to schedule our usual Thursday clients earlier in the month.

We wish everyone a very happy holiday season, and we want to thank our amazing volunteers and, of course, our generous and supportive local community! 🎄❤️🎄
