Food AND Medicine is a member-based regional grassroots nonprofit that organizes working-class and low-income people to address root causes of poverty. Formed in 2002 by union members and allies following devastating job losses in Eastern Maine due to mill closures, Food AND Medicine operates on the belief that no one should be forced to choose between food, medicine and other basic necessities. W

e use a hybrid of direct service and grassroots organizing with the goal of systemic change. We partner closely with the Eastern Maine Labor Council and it’s member unions; our staff are members of the UAW. Food AND Medicine is the Maine chapter of Jobs with Justice.

After months of negotiations, IAFF Local 3106 and the Town Manager reached a tentative agreement on a new collective bargaining contract. That agreement was negotiated in good faith.

Council will be voting on the contract Monday night.

We need allies to attend the Town Council meeting on Monday, May 18, 2026.

Some board members and staff went down to Atlanta to represent Food AND Medicine at the Workers Reviving Democracy National Convention. We learned so much from the other chapters and leaders. Stay tuned for the scrapbook!
