She opened her eyes today…
This tiny chipmunk was rescued a couple of days ago, and today she saw the world for the very first time. Moments like this remind us how fragile, and resilient wildlife can be.
Every life matters, no matter how small.
Sheri an amazing wild rehabber will continue to care for her and guide her journey back to the wild.

I looked up and spotted this little one watching from the tree.

Right now many squirrels are raising their young, and the babies will soon start to venture out of their nests to explore the world.

They often appear alone, but in most cases their mother is nearby keeping an eye on them while gathering food.

If you see a young squirrel like this:
Give it space
Keep pets away
Let nature take care of the rest

Mom knows exactly what she’s doing.

White Squirrel sighting submitted from Marietta GA. Thank you for sharing

Description:
I spotted a group of three white squirrels together. Based on their dark eyes and the subtle gray "smudge" patches on their heads and backs, they appear to be leucistic (white morph) rather than true albinos.

Observation:
Seeing three together suggests a family group or localized colony. They were active, foraging, and appeared well-integrated with the standard gray squirrels in the area.

From the comfort of her own home, Pisgah Piper has spoken!

After consulting the finest squirrely sources and peering deep into the winter woods, Pisgah Piper is making it official:

• Prediction #1: A late winter is headed our way—winter’s not done with us just yet.

• Prediction #2: The Seattle Seahawks will soar their way to victory in Super Bowl 2026!

Will Piper be right again? Only time will tell but history says to listen to the Brevard's White Squirrel Ambassador. She is usually right.

Stay warm. Go Hawks.

2026 White Squirrel Day Cancelled Due to Approaching Storm

Due to the approaching winter storm and the likelihood of dangerous road conditions following the storm, the 2026 White Squirrel Day celebration has been cancelled. Many roads in our area especially secondary and private roads are expected to remain icy and hazardous, making travel unsafe for attendees, volunteers, and partners.

While we are disappointed not to gather in person this year, safety comes first. Pisgah Piper will still issue her annual predictions from the comfort of her home, and we’ll share them with the community online.

Thank you to our sponsors, partners, and the Brevard community for your continued support of White Squirrel Day and the White Squirrel Institute. Stay safe and warm—we’ll see you next year for even more squirrelly fun.

Many orphans can be left for a few hours to see if their mother comes back... BUT NOT OPOSSUMS! If you see a baby like this one in a yard or anywhere, quickly get it into a little box or pet carrier with a blanket and keep it warm.
A mother opossum can have up to 13 babies. As they grow, they don’t all fit in her pouch, so they ride on her back. If something startles her and she runs, one can fall off. The mother doesn’t know she’s lost one, so never, ever leave one behind thinking the mother will return.
We often overlook the small creatures around us, but every action we take could save a life. Never abandon an animal that you can help. Every living creature on this planet has the right to live and be cared for when needed.
