As I was going through the Nativity Story, I couldn't help but think that this was a huge foreshadowing of the rest of the New Testament. Jesus was constantly under attack by the Jewish leaders who wanted to kill Him because of His perceived challenge to their power (King Herod/Pharasees). Gentiles, who had no business caring about Him, came to find him (Wisemen/Gentiles in Acts). God targeted the social outcasts with the goodness (shepherds/sinners and tax collectors). Myrrh was given as a gift for his birth and used to anointed Him right before his death. Over the many years I have learned that if you view the Nativity Story as a birth story, you have missed so very much of what God was doing and planned to do. Merry Christmas

We are very excited about what God is doing right now in DR Congo. Because of the generosity of God's people, we have been able to start building a new church for the Ebenezer Congregation meeting in Luvungi, DRC. This church held a special place for our dear brother, Pastor Flory. When we visited this church last year, we met them in a building made of sticks and mud. The church was completely filled.... but when they sang!... I think that this might have been why Pastor Flory loved this congregation so much.

Right now we have raised enough to build the majority of the church. But we don't quite have enough. Would you please pray about making a special gift towards this church? We only need to raise $2,000 more to finish this building. It is our prayer that we would raise this by the end of the month so that they can put the roof on before the rainy season hits. (this is what destroyed Neema church in Luvungi a couple of years ago.) If you are able to join us in this endeavor, you can donate at https://www.becomingmature.org/donate

Would you also pray over this church. They are fast growing and heavily outreaching. Even without a building, their joy of the Lord is so contagious that many are coming to Christ through them. Please pray that they would remain energized and have a long lasting impact on that city, the surrounding area, and the kingdom of Christ.

To our friends and supporters,

It is with grieving hearts that we inform you that our dear friend and African head of REMIC churches, Floribert (Flory) Kazingufu went home to be with the Lord on March 2nd after a brief illness. Pastor Flory was the driving force of gathering almost 50 churches across 5 countries under the umbrella of REMIC (Network of Missionary Churches in Christ). Becoming Mature has worked side by side with REMIC training Pastors and church leaders since 2008. He worked tirelessly to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ in war torn Democratic Republic of Congo and Burundi, gathering and training pastors to lead congregations during a great evangelistic explosion.

But we do not grieve as those who have no hope. (1 Thess. 4:13-18)

We are asking you to pray now for several things:

•For his wife, Amina, and their three young children - for their comfort, but also that the body of Christ would come alongside to support her as she lost her main financial support

• For the churches of REMIC - the leaders are meeting to make difficult decisions as they move forward in the ministry

•For our Executive Director, Pastor Jacob, as he travels to Africa to attend the funeral on Tuesday and subsequent meeting with the church leaders - for his safety and ability to navigate once he arrives in Burundi. Pastor Flory always served as our main interpreter and guide

•For Becoming Mature as we will also need to make decisions on how best to support the immediate needs of God’s people there and be able to continue the amazing level work God has allowed us to accomplish in the last several years

Our founder and president of Becoming Mature, Dr. Bruce Baker, graduated to heaven this past week. We are so thankful for his life and ministry, and look forward to seeing him again or day in the presence of our Savior.

Bcause of the generous donations of God's people, the roof at the church in Lemera is going up, and the funds have been sent over for the roof in Sange!

Please pray for our brothers and sisters in Christ as they work on building these two churches and reach out to the communities around them amidst the continuing struggles of COVID-19.
