CALL FOR JUDGES:

Hey local friends! Do you have plans next Friday and/or Saturday (March 6th & 7th)? This is a county wide event that is going on for a total of 4 days this year. Our biggest event is our two-dayer in March.

Each youth picks a topic that they are interested (does not have to be 4-H related! (A couple of years ago, one teen gave her presentation on lobotomies! I would have loved to hear that one!) They put in time researching their topic, writing their speeches, and creating visual aids.

Our Friday sign-up is already full of youth, ready to teach their judges something new! Our judges sign-up, however, is not even close to being full.

Events like this are only successful with the help of our amazing community members who volunteer their time. NO EXPERIENCE NEEDED, we will pair you up with a veteran judge who can show you the ropes. If you've got an hour or two to spare, I promise you won't be disappointed!!

This gig is PERFECT for my retired friends, empty nesters, and any of you who like to learn new things! You'll also feel good when you go to bed that night, knowing you helped the youth in our community by supporting their programs.

For those of you that were not able to attend Council, in person or via Zoom, the decision was made to change 4-H Record Books.

Our Record Book Superintendent, Nanette Seevers, and I spoke about it at length during fair and agreed that it makes more sense to be as uniform and streamline as possible.

I am working on getting the website updated but wanted to make sure to get this information out as soon as possible.

The information can be found at: https://extension.wsu.edu/whitman/youth/recordbooks/ at the moment until the website is updated.

You will see that there is a Level 1 and Level 2 Record Book.

I will let Nanette answer specific questions, but wanted to let people know before they start printing Record Books for the upcoming 4-H year.

I will be printing Record Books as requested.

Level 1 (Cloverbud) Level 1 Fillable 4-H Record Book Permanent Record Book Level 1 Fillable If you have any Cloverbuds who plan to do a Permanent Record Book consider using the Level 2 Book.…

What are you doing this Saturday??

Coming out for an hour or two....or five to help Judge 4-H Public Presentations?!?

Sounds like a plan!!!

This is the last time for 4-H Youth to present their Public Presentations for the year.

I can guarantee you that you will learn something new, cool, fascinating, weird, unusual, mind boggling....or ALL of the above!

Presentations will take place at Faith Fellowship Church, Saturday May 31st from 9am-2pm, at 6251 NW Newberry Hill RD Silverdale WA 98383.

We can't do what we do without our amazing judges!
Literally. Without adults volunteering their time to help judge these Presentations, we wouldn't be able to pull this off! Please consider signing up for an hour or more. Grab a friend and sign up! This is also a great way to get your feet wet with volunteering if you feel a little intimidated. Every room must have at least one certified volunteer and an experienced judge. The experienced judge does not need to be the certified volunteer and vice versa.

We currently have more youth signed up than we have judges signed up.

Seeking host families for International 4-H students from Japan for 3 1/2 weeks this summer!!!

Below is some brief program information and a list of the remaining delegates that are still seeking 3 1/2 week placements here in Washington State.

If you have teenage children in your home, please consider this learning opportunity—truly a unique experience for the entire family. Host families must have a child within 4 years of the exchange students age, i.e., 13 year old exchange student - must have a child between 9 and 17 years old.

Host families do not need to belong to 4-H in order to participate. Please share this with your friends, families and community contacts. We have hundreds of thousands of families in our state yet finding hosts can really be a struggle. Your help in sharing the information is greatly appreciated--thank you.

There is also an adult chaperone who travels with the group who will need hosting. She can be placed in two homes within the hosting period (July 25-August 17) and does not need to have children in the home. Hosting is a fun way to learn new things and experience the joys of hospitality.

There are also a few older students needing high school placements—please let me know if you are interested in more information about them. This email information pertains only to our youth visiting from Japan for the shorter in bound program

SEEKING HOST FAMILIES for the 4-H INTERNATIONAL EXCHANGE SUMMER INBOUND PROGRAM (Japan)
hosting dates Friday July 25 through Sunday August 17

The application can be found here https://www.states4hexchange.org/apply/host/
Screening process involves background checks, references and a home visit.

Delegates are placed with a youth host sibling in the home of the same gender and up to a four-year age difference. Volunteer host families must speak English in the home. The youth profiles are below. Please note: these are NOT the actual names of the delegates.

Japanese delegates will be experiencing their program orientations in Ellensburg. Host families will need to pick up/drop off there. (all delegates are to be placed in Washington State)

Thank you and please let me know if you have questions ([email protected]).
