Stand Up For Kids - Bremerton, Wash.

We do this, every day, in cities across America. We carry out our mission through our volunteers who go to the streets in order to find, stabilize and otherwise help homeless and street kids improve their lives.

StandUp For Kids has outreach programs to help locate and assist homeless and at-risk kids on the street. This is what we do and we do it every day. StandUp For Kids encounter homeless kids who are couch-
surfers attend regular school. We connect with school
counselors or liaison from the McKinney-Vento Homeless
Assistance Act to encourage them to give us the chance to
help these students in need. We work with schools furnishing
weekend food and nutritious snacks in a backpack to be
distributed to homeless kids attending school. They bring
the empty backpack back on Monday to be refilled for the
following weekend. Clothes are also given to homeless
students to take, as needed. In addition to the basics, we provide bus passes for students
who can't ride the school bus (such as moms with baby, or
student living across town). Other things that we provide
upon recommendation include, but are not limited to, baby
layettes, testing fees, diploma fee, food handler certification
fee, summer school fees, driver's license testing fee. We
have given the occasional scholarship for students highly
recommended by school counselors. The continued support of basic needs being met enables kids
to stay in school to finish their education and will help keep
them off the streets during school hours.
